hadriel_ooc | Monthly Rundown: May Edition

Hopefully April gave everyone a little time to chill, recover from the city split, and finish up threads. With May here, it's time to get Arc 2 in gear for real! So hold on tight, and let's get this thing going!

MAY PART 1: SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO

On May 4th, Sorrow will be making an appearance on the network with a poll that will determine the direction of future events - at least for a little while. After being found and nearly attacked by their enemies, the gods have decided it's time to send out a scouting party in an attempt to get a better idea of what's going on out there and where their enemies are. After some disagreement in the ranks, they've decided to leave it up to the residents of Hadriel. It'll be up to your characters to choose which pair of gods goes out, and whichever pair is chosen will have no events for a few months. They will also not be responding to inbox messages, and any ongoing deals they have will be cut off. This also determines the last event of May, which will be a combination event for the god pair chosen! Your options are:

HOPE & SORROW: Sorrow is the most observant and strategic of the gods, and Hope's powers of healing and resurrection give them a very high chance of survival if they happen to get caught. However, back in Hadriel food will become an issue - the other gods can provide, but not with the same variety or amount. Also, resurrections will take longer and be more difficult, with a higher chance of things going wrong.

FEAR & LOVE: Fear is still recovering from the events at the end of March, so his teleportation power is limited. Love isn't particularly suited for 'stealthy' at all. Overall, they're probably the worst option of the four. However, no one likes either of them very much, and their absence won't impact day-to-day life significantly - unless the gods' enemies find the city again, and Fear isn't around to move it. Then everyone's screwed. But that probably won't happen again.

RAGE & DELIGHT: Rage and Delight are both skilled fighters, though the gods are all hoping the mission won't come down to that. Still, they're good at keeping themselves alive and going for long periods, and they've got a great rapport. On the other hand, Hadriel without them will lack new weapons at the armory, any new ammunition, and - well, you guys already blew up the bar, so you definitely wouldn't be getting it back then.

TRANQUILITY & CONFUSION: Another team that gets along well, Tranquility and Confusion are builders and creators rather than fighters, so they'll be doing their best to avoid a fight. Their combined skill at altering perceptions might come in handy, too. Back at home, this would leave you without working mopeds or GPS. The city would also be in a bit worse repair, and the tunnels extra dangerous.

So, think it over! Who would your character choose? The poll will close one week after it opens.

Then, on May 10th, our new arrivals appear. Looks like the Door isn't taking a break! Along with them comes a few manticores, that weird mythological creature.

Manticores are lion-shaped monsters with human faces, wings, and a scorpion-like tail. Just to make things better, their tails can shoot poisonous spines that will paralyze you so that they can devour you and all your possessions! Have fun with that. Later, on May 12th, we will have our bimonthly CR meme.

MAY PART 2: JUMPSCARES

Fear's still recovering his power, and the gods want to help him out. So everyone's getting in on the fun to help throw a fear-based event - but one maybe just a touch sillier than normal.

From May 16th-May 20th, there will be terrifying creatures lurking around corners, ready to jump out and attack any unsuspecting passersby. You'd better watch your back and keep a weapon handy, because you never know what might come out of the shadows! That giant bear is going to tear out your insides, and - what? It just exploded into a handful of glitter and three snickerdoodle cookies? Huh.

That's right, this event is all about jumpscares without any followup. That quick jolt of fear is all the gods are looking for, and so your characters will find things lurking in the corners of their vision, creatures coming up behind them, and all manner of sudden, terrifying surprises - which will then turn into completely innocuous things a moment later. Of course, while you're dropping glasses of water and screaming in fear at stuff that turns out to be nothing, it will slowly become clear that it's not all nothing.

The Door has brought in a few more creatures that were not immediately obvious. But once everyone's getting all worked up, well - they want to come out and play too! Your character may come across one or two (or more) cuddly critters that just want a meal and a new friend! Well, most of them. Others are a little more unfriendly, but none are actually dangerous, no matter what they look like. These creatures will remain after the event, if you want a new pet! MAY PART 3/JUNE PART 1: ???

The last event of May, stretching into June, will be based on what you all choose. It'll be a double or combination event to gain power for the gods being sent out, and it might end up being an actual combination event, two smaller events side-by-side, or two short events back to back. It all depends on what gods you pick to get thrown out into the wild unknown, so don't forget to vote! This event will be May 24th-June 2nd..

Hello! Prussia doesn't want to vote for any gods, but rather wants to volunteer himself for the mission. When he's inevitably turned down, is there any way to sneak off after them? I'm open to any consequences. Andros will probably be doing most of the sneaking, actually. Prussia is no good at being quiet.

Andros is good at sneaking. He shall sneak. (cause why rely on others when you could try and do stupid shit yourself?)

Sneaking after them would be difficult, since they are not corporeal and will be very hard to follow. (Also, they'll eventually be going out into space, which would likely end in death for most characters.) If he and Andros want to try to follow them, however, they could end up getting lost in the tunnels - as that seems to be the only possible way in or out of the city. The tunnels are full of monsters, twisty and confusing, and eventually always lead back to the city itself.

The gods themselves would not make any attempt to stop people from following them, or impose any consequences. Getting lost in the tunnels is good enough, in their opinion.

Thanks! That's fine. Prussia spends probably too much time getting lost in the tunnels to go fight monsters as it is, so it'll be a normal week for him after all.

People would be more likely to come back just slightly wrong. Some examples: a missing or dulled sense (smell, taste, sight, etc), an extra/missing finger or toe or other small bodypart, hair that grows in a different color or not at all, change in pitch or volume of voice. Essentially, small mistakes that don't seriously impact characters' daily lives but which are very noticeable to the person they happen to!

Yes, they'd have to ask the gods to fix it, and the gods might not be willing to do it for free. I mean, it's not their fault you died!

Just for kicks and giggles, I've been putting together a compilation of mutant nekos if anyone needs/wants any inspiration.

Not particularly relevant but amusing nonetheless, some questionable food choices to serve your horrible visitor.
