Planetary Rundown: The Homeworld

Hey all, are you ready to check out your new home? We're really excited to show it to you! So without further ado, let's just cut right to the chase!

THE TRANSFER
The End of Arc 2 is over on December 12th, at which point Fear will teleport the city, sans Null (hopefully) into a new location, one that takes place above ground. While the city is still the same, the surrounding environment is very different and will likely take some time getting used to! Unfortunately, the gods are not really available to help facilitate the transfer, as they're all dealing with their own crises.

This means that you'll be left to scavenge for your own survival and make do with what you have. Most, if not all, of the ongoing god blessings and deals (such as the coffee cart, the orchard growth, and others) have been cut off and you're left to eat that weird looking algae or go off hunting for any kind of sustainable meat. Yum!

As a quick note as well, remember that Hadriel is a city that has been teleported frequently in the past, and may change locations again in the future. While that doesn't mean that you can't get comfortable, we just want to make sure that everyone is aware that the setting change will likely not be permanent.

BACK TO THE HOMEWORLD
As before mentioned, the basic layout of the city will remain the same. The shops, streets, houses, and spires will all have the same structure and reside in the same area in relation to one another. All player created locations will be moved safely alongside the city, including various labs, bunkers, buildings, gardens, and yes, even Silent Hill. With this shift, Fear has not done anything different to how he would usually move the city, and so nothing on the inside of it would have changed any moreso than it changed when he repositioned the city from planet to planet; he's merely putting it down in a different location geologically.

So, what's different isn't so much inside the city as it is outside. Instead of stifling walls, Hadriel will now be surrounded by alien, rocky terrain with the sparse plant life and many glittering pools of water. Dive deep enough in the pools (with proper diving equipment!) and you may find yourself in one of several beautiful underwater cave systems.

The only real difference inside the city is that the god temples are now somehow conveniently located on these pools, with each temple rising up from each of the eight pools inside of the city, sort of like this. There are stone walkways leading up to the temples, with each pool of water reflecting the color of the gods, save for Sorrow and Delight's temple, which both simply have regularly colored minerals and water around them.

As before mentioned, the solar cycle is different than what one might be used to- there are two suns in the planet's solar system, one larger, one smaller- though both of them are slightly smaller than Earth's sun. One of these is a main sequence star, the other is a red dwarf star. The planet orbits the main sequence star, which itself is orbiting the red dwarf star. If you're confused, feel free to check out this classy mspaint diagram!

The primary sun that the planet orbits around is very hot and bright, whereas the secondary star is dimmer and cooler. When both suns are out simultaneously, the heat can be unbearable, however, when only the secondary sun is out, the sky has a dusk-like lightness to it and the temperature is cool and more comfortable. When the primary sun is out alone, the heat is still a few hairs too hot to be perfect, but it isn't quite so bad. In terms of timing, the primary (hot) sun will be around for 14 hours, while the secondary (cooler) sun will be around for 10 hours, 2 of which overlaps with the primary sun. This means that there will actually be 2 hours of night, though during those two hours the temperature drops dramatically to be only slightly above freezing. Enjoy planning your wardrobe for a trip out!

As you may be able to discern from the diagrams, the unique solar cycle will change depending on the time of year. The planet happens to be coming into a time where more of the secondary sun will be exposed to the planet's 'dark side' thereby shortening both the time that both suns overlap and the time where no sun is out at all.

And if all of that is too confusing, feel free to take liberties with it and handwave if you like. It's not the most crucial part of this planet, so as long as you remember that we currently have two suns and it's hot out then you're golden!

The planet has one moon, on a 23 day cycle (which will be updated in the calendar). Those who can sense solar/lunar cycles from underground may recognize this as a planet that Hadriel has been on before, although it was underground at the time.

A WHOLE NEW WORLD
Without most of the gods to help you with food and drink, it's likely that you'll need to scavenge for yourself. Never fear though, because it is possible. All of the water in the various pools are fresh and clean and can be drank without adverse health risks. Growing on the surface of many of these pools are long strands of seaweed-like plants which are edible, though they might make you a little queasy at first until your stomach gets used to them. Inside of these bodies of water are fish that can be caught, though they might taste a bit different than the fish you're used to!

Additionally, all of the monsters in the caves are still around the city, and without Hope or the tunnels to keep them away, they're lost wandering the rocky dunes around Hadriel until they decide to nip in for a quick snack. While the numbers of the various creatures in our bestiary have significantly diminished, there's still enough of them left to be both a dangerous problem, and a bit of an unorthodox solution. Be sure to cook all meat to 'well done' to avoid any weird monster diseases and also wendigo possession!

And finally, while the ground on the earth around Hadriel is mostly rocky and inhospitable, the dirt within the city limits (the dirt that Fear brought with him when he transferred the city) is capable of growth, particularly near where Sorrow's orchard was burned down.

So there you have it! Try to get some rest, remember to eat your vegetables if you can find any, bring a weapon with you at all times because you never know when monsters are going to attack, and just try to lick your wounds and recover for a bit. We're in for a long haul.

SHINING, SHIMMERING, SPLASHING
While scavenging and drinking the water from the pools, you may find that the water has certain... godlike properties to it. If stored separately from the pools in different containers for several days, these properties will disappear, but if anyone drinks the water there (which most people should, as it's the only source of water nearby) then they'll find themselves feeling fragments of the god's emotion throughout the next day! Every emotion, save for Sorrow and Delight works this way and you're free to choose how much your character will be effected. Sorrow and Delight's pools will have no noticeable effect.

Furthermore, there's also a chance to get small pieces of blessings from drinking at these pools, though they're much more unreliable and less powerful than the main abilities. Confusion's pool, for example, may allow you to erase a single phrase or thought from someone's head, but not a full memory. Rage's will let you throw a strong punch or two, but then you find yourself back to the usual strength.

These effects do not last long and are as fleeting as the emotions that they make you feel. Drink responsibly!

THE OVERVIEW

► December 12th: The city is moved! Thanks, Fear.
► December 13th: The water around the various god temples becomes infused with god magic, affecting your characters in various ways.
► December 15th: Various monsters from the bestiary will begin to get hungry and try their luck at attacking the city. Be careful!
