Monthly Rundown: January Edition

After all that plot and all those changes, we're back to something a little bit like normal. Of course, it's still a new world, and it won't be too long before things start happening again - but surely you missed god-caused events?

As always, if you ever have any suggestions or feedback you'd like to offer us mods, remember you can always drop us a line here! Also, please remember to hit up the Current AC post if you have AC for the month! Characters accepted in December do not require AC proofs, but we do require a check-in on the post!

JANUARY PART 1: ROCK THIS CITY
The very beginning of January is mostly devoted to discussion and debate on the topic of Delight. The poll about her fate will close on January 5th, and her sentence will be carried out later in the month. Choose wisely - as with all choices in Hadriel, what you decide will have an effect on the future course of the game.

In addition, over the course of the month Hope will be slowly regaining strength - and the city will be recovering along with him. First, on January 6th, the water supply will be restored. No more drinking weird water from magical pools! Hooray. Enjoy some hot showers and working faucets. Food will still be a problem for a couple weeks, though, with Sorrow's orchard in bad shape and the shops mostly picked dry. On January 19th, that will start to change. The shops will be restocked with food and will remain so, though other, non-food shops - clothes, tools, miscellany - will still not have new items. Electricity is also still not really working, revivals are likely to have issues, and any non-vital deals with Hope are still not being fulfilled (though if your character needs something to live, those deals will be restored by the beginning of January at the very latest). There's a ways to go before he's fully recovered.

On January 10th, as usual, our new arrivals appear through the door. Along with them will come a number of uncontrolled Earth elementals, rock creatures from the Heroes of Might and Magic video game.

Earth elementals are large, slow-moving creatures made of rock. Though slow, they hit very hard, and since they're made of rock... well, they're pretty hard to hurt. They resist a lot of magic, and weapons have to be pretty tough to damage them. Then, on January 12th, we will have our bimonthly CR meme.

JANUARY PART 2: DUST TO DUST
Did you think you'd gotten used to this new world, with its double suns, its heat, and the dusty dry landscape dotted with colorful pools? Well, it's not that easy, because of course it isn't. On January 14th, you'll have to deal with some local weather as the wind kicks up and a dust storm moves into the city. It won't start off too bad, though you'll find dust, dirt, and sand in places where it really shouldn't be, but after a day or so things will really start to get bad. Visibility goes down to almost nothing, even the simple act of opening your front door will invite a wave of dust into your home.

Guard sensitive electronics, your pets, any food you're planning to eat, and your eyes. Oh, and be sure to find some clothing to wrap up in if you're going outside, because the stronger gusts of wind are fast enough to hurt, blowing grit and dust against exposed skin in a feeling not unlike sandpaper. Awesome. On January 17th, the storm will die down, and you'll get the fun of repairing, cleaning, and getting pissed at the gods for being unable to control the weather.

After this, on January 20th, there will be a network post from Delight. This will be a direct response to the poll, and what she'll say depends on what you voted.

JANUARY PART 3: THE HOPE OF A CHILD
Hope's the one in most need of power right now, but he's also the one whose emotion is often the hardest to inspire. Confusion, who doesn't particularly like or believe in any of the inhabitants of the city, has decided to think outside the box and find a new source: children. Wow, it sounds kind of bad when you say it like that.

We've gotten more requests for an age-down event than any other - however, there are some logistical difficulties, in that the gods don't generally alter people's bodies. But of course, they're more than happy to affect people's minds, and that's what Confusion is planning to do - with just a little help from Tranquility.

Starting on January 23rd, characters will find themselves falling asleep at strange times. While they're asleep, their consciousnesses will be projected outside of themselves - as a younger version. These children will seem completely real, and they will embody the memories and experiences of that particular character as a child. They'll have none of the knowledge, skills, or memories that their older selves have. What Confusion's hoping, however, is that they'll have more of a capacity for hope.

When your character wakes up, the child will disappear - at least until the next time this unnatural sleep hits them. It's up to you how often and how long they're affected. Perhaps they'll fall asleep at the beginning of the event and not wake up until the end, perhaps they'll sleep in snatches of a few hours here and there, and perhaps they won't sleep at all. (Normal sleep won't be affected.) For those who are awake while others sleep, it'll be up to you how you deal with these strange new children running around the city.

When the event ends, on February 1st, it'll be your decision whether your characters remember any of this. While they won't remember anything vividly, they might have dreamlike memories of what happened to their child selves - or they might have no recollection of what happened. There will be more info about this event in an OOC post that will go up later in the month!
