Working on that sort of hypothesis, and also one that speculates the gods have something to do with the tunnels being as impossible as they are (though I know that Confusion designed them so kanyeshrug silly characters), if during the event some folks had tried to risk all that exploring, would the result have been any different? Probably not enough time to experiment with digging anywhere during the few days, but...?
