hello hadriel im a new player i only know like one of you but nice to meet the rest of you! my name is javid and im bringing in an oc, vida veisi.

shes a huge grump and im actually taking her from like... pre-story so shes not an antagonist yet but by golly shes well on her way. shes got a bad attitude and is generally a busybody so i look forward to her inevitably annoying some people with her whole "i know everything and am always right" shtick.

notably, shes got a body horror abomination of an uncontrollable "parasite" (its not actually a parasite its just called that. sorry) hanging off her arm but she tries to keep it out of view if she can. only problem is the thing has a mind of its own because she used her ~*special godpowers to Separate it from herself as a moody child. it doesn't do much but wriggle around and knock things off tables and be a nuisance. more worldbuildy type stuff can be found in her app on her journal if youre curious!

Aw man, that's awesome! Because your Claire was amazing and I totally miss him, dude. I actually picked up the light novels a few months back myself and they got me back into reading. I'm pretty stoked that they finally got licensed for official translation now, too.

But yeah, rock on! We can totally smash our OCs together now and shit. :D

yeah i cant wait to actually own all of them?? i had a couple of them in japanese but i lost them (wahh) and could barely read them anyway so having an actual official translation will be so great once more are out. especially since the fan translations ive been reading are a bit awkward at times.

Man, I found the fan translations hit or miss. Some are really good and others are... yeah. I'm really looking forward to the official release of Drugs & Dominoes because I recall that fan translation being particularly awkward. (Plus D&D was one of my faves.)

god yeah the handling of the phonetic accents in that novel is gruesome in particular, thats the one im on right now, which sucks because its actually one of my favorite novels too!!! (and i have huge problems with how the anime handled their adaptation of it skjng BUT I COULD RANT ABOUT EVE AND HER MOTIVATIONS AND HOW THEY CONTRADICT THE ANIMES PORTRAYAL OF HER FOR A WHILE AND NO ONE WANTS THAT)

I remember it being pretty bad, including Luck calling his brothers "Kieth-bro" and "Berga-bro" which just sounded very weird and childish for the character. (Oh god don't get me started on that, too. I read the novels and got REALLY MAD how much they shafted D&D and The Rolling Bootlegs to focus more on the Flying Pussyfoot stuff. I'm even boggled that they included a scene from The Slash in episode one and the anime never even touches on that storyline? But ugh it got Eve so messed up and it's almost unwatchable to me now, which sucks because I still love the music and aesthetics and voice acting.)

Hahaha it's okay, I think we've all changed a bit AND YOU WERE SO WEE AND YOUNG. I can't believe how many tinies were in that game.

OH MY GOD yeah keith-bro and berga-bro... like i can see what they were trying to preserve in terms of the original japanese but you also have to think about what sounds natural in english when youre translating. there's a balance that needs to be struck that i think an official translation will really help with. (i mean, to be fair the flying pussyfoot stuff encompassed two novels. i dont think they had enough episodes to devote to all four novels equally, which leaves the question of why did they bother animating d&d at all if they removed claire's part in it entirely? they took out the parts that were the major links between the three storylines. i do still love the anime for what it offers, e.g i do think the way they jumped between storylines was really unique and interesting.)

Not only that, but people don't talk like that in America, let alone 1930s America. I don't think "bro" was a very common if at all used term back then, lol. I really hope that they fix that in the official translation. It always kinda bothered me when I see translators keeping the original Japanese honorifics to non-Japanese speaking characters. (That's true. It's a shame that it didn't get the same attention as DRRR! with getting full seasons; I think that would've helped a lot. As it was the anime kinda plays out like a prolonged trailer to get you to read the light novels because you're not going to get anywhere the kind of meat like you would in the books. I feel like they should've just cut the D&D storyline entirely because it felt so out of place with the 1930-31 stuff. I remember being so confused and having trouble following what was going on in the anime, then read the books and was like "Ooohhh, this makes so much more sense now!")

yeah, you can see the fan translations sometimes trying to use 30s vernacular (it really depends on the person translating since it wasnt all done by one person) but they really fall short. plus theres a lot of typos and grammar mistakes that would hopefully not be found in an official translation. reading it i just have to ignore all that and get the gist of what they are saying. i cant wait for more of the official ones to come out, i think the grand punk railroad local episode is coming out soon this year, and then express episode at the end of the year? iirc. (yeah i think the anime was designed to make more sense on a rewatch at least, if not upon reading the novels. though i rewatched that anime constantly as a teen haha)

Man, the typos drove me up the wall sometimes, but at least not to the point where it was illegible. I just wished that the translators had betas before they released the chapters. Even then, I still dug the writing style and I'm really excite to see it more polished. If I remember right, I think they're publishing one book every three months (which, given that there are so many, it'll still take well over six years for them to get caught up). (I rewatched the anime a lot, too; the novels just shed so much more light on the story and characters. It makes me really happy to see some of the book characters in this game!)

It's rare enough where I generally don't care who it is, I'm glad to see one! And this isn't bias or anything but I think the cast here is p rad, if I do say so myself. Hehehe.
