Monthly Rundown: October Edition
Happy October and first month of Hadriel! Here is an OOC post to lay out what you can expect from our maiden voyage. In the future, posts like these will be monthly and will go up before the end of the previous month. Feel free to ask any questions you might have in response to this post. This month is a bit of a doozy, but after things start rolling out, the setting should calm down a bit!
OCTOBER PART 1: SETTING UP
OCTOBER PART 2: FEAR ITSELF
TO RECAP...
Because it is our first month, there will also be no Activity Check for the month of October! Thank you, and welcome to Hadriel!
OCTOBER PART 1: SETTING UP
First thing’s first: on October 10th, the intro log will go up. Like most months, your characters will wake up in the arena- but they won’t be alone! Along with your character will be the others who were apped in during the application cycle, as well as several monsters, who will be stalking through the halls of the Colosseum and looking to terrorize your characters. The monster in this intro log will be some hungry dire bears, and more info on them will go up on the intro log post.
If you don’t want your character to interact with the monsters, you don’t have to! Feel free to assume that they passed you by or were already killed before your character was brought into the city. The dire bears who aren’t killed in a timely enough manner will escape to the rest of the city and the surrounding tunnels to threaten your characters another time at your discretion.
However, that doesn’t mean that the characters are out of the frying pan yet! Feel free to thread out characters finding housing, as well as general exploration and various monster threats. While there is water in the river and lake located near the center of the city, there is no readily available food and no electricity. In addition, for the first week of the game there will be no network access and no communicators. Phones from home will have no service, and the characters are seemingly alone and isolated in the city, with little explanation of how or why they are here.
On the 13th of October, just when characters might start gnawing off their own legs, a gift of food will show up on the porch of all occupied houses and outside the apartment doors in the spires. This food won’t be quite what they’re used to- full of alien meats and strange vegetables- but it shouldn’t make anyone sick. Just don’t eat too fast! There will be enough food to last for a couple of days, by which point, the stores will start being stocked with similar foods and various supplies.
As a note, the dire bears can be hunted and killed for their meat before the arrival of the food. Might want to be careful though- they want to eat you just about as much as you want to eat them.
On the 15th of October, electricity will sputter into the various lighting and appliances around the house. Said sputtering may result in a few shattered bulbs and sparks flying about, but after the initial surge, it should stabilize itself into a steady stream of electricity to power things with.
On the 17th of October, everyone will wake up next to a 2013-style smart phone, as detailed in our network section of the FAQ. The phone will come with the network apps, and at this point, the game network will be fully functional.
Characters will have a few days to play with their newfound communications before the NPC Hope will make a post on the network on October 19th, finally informing the characters of what they’re doing here and letting them know about the presence of the gods. Hope and Fear will meander about the post and the network in general to answer questions and be their typical cheery selves.
OCTOBER PART 2: FEAR ITSELF
The last ten days of the month, October 21st-31st, will be when we roll out our first Fear-style event! This event will deal with characters having visions of their worst fears- in essence, hallucinations which are communicable and can be relieved through physical proximity to other characters. Look out, though- during the second week, physical contact will begin to amplify the hallucinations instead, and result in combining fears and shared hallucinations. And hey, just because it’s not real doesn’t mean that it can’t hurt you.
More information on the Fear event, as well as a plotting post, will go up in the next few weeks, so be on the lookout for that!
As a final note, this is essentially the month in which the gods are learning how to take care of the various characters who have been transported into the city. Due to this, the food will be strange and scarce at first, the water might taste a little funny, network and electricity will be delayed, and the day cycle will gradually move from a 30 hour cycle in the beginning of the month back down to a typical 24-25 hour cycle as the weeks progress and the gods learn what a natural human circadian rhythm is. Toward the end of the month, things will be more evened out as the city is up and running for real.
