Event Post: Dead Ringers

THE RUNDOWN

Seeing as to how Confusion and Fear are both glorified internet trolls, it's no surprise that they would team up so quickly to snag a little extra power here and there. Unfortunately, this extra power is going to be at the expense of you all, and it'll probably look pretty familiar...

On January 16th, the city will be flooded with doubles of each (opting-in) character. These doubles aren't a fighting army or anything like that- instead, they're sneaky, duplicitous, and out to ruin the lives of the original. They have all the same memories and abilities as their originals, but their purpose will be to cause hardship and ruin the lives of their originals. They'll do this in any way possible- from simple things like fighting with their best friend, to more drastic things, like hurting someone or destroying something that the original loves.

While they don't necessarily have to be violent, it only makes sense that they would try to remove their original from the picture through murder or imprisoning them somewhere. The more the doubles can give off the impression that nothing out of the ordinary is going on, the more effective they can be- and so any confrontation with their original is ideally going to be alone, where others can't see them. Due to this, it may take some time before the ordinary citizens realize that anything is going on... and by then, it might be too late.

Can you kill someone who looks identical to you? Can you trust anyone, when your best friend may actually be out to kill you and your roommate might be secretly planning to set your bed on fire?

THE DETAILS

Each player will play both their own character and their double for the event. If the double kills the original, then they will have the pleasure of playing an evil clone until the event is over! Doubles will not have network access on their own, but after they've... taken care of the originals, they can use their phones and network ID to continue sowing discord that way.

Additionally, all doubles will be able to recognize one another. Whether they use this to plot among themselves or simply to easier isolate the non-doubled targets is up to you!

Hope will be unable to resurrect the originals (if they die) until January 25th, which signals the end of the event. If the original managed to kill their clone, then they have nothing to worry about- if the original wasn't quite so lucky and the double lived on until Confusion's disbanding, then the originals may come back to live with the memories of what their double had done, though that's up to the player!

THE OVERVIEW

► January 16th: The doubles infiltrate the city, intent on taking the place of their originals or ruining their lives some other way.
► January 20th: By now, it's fairly obvious that Hope isn't resurrecting any of the dead originals!
► January 25th: Confusion finally sends the clones away, leaving Hope free to resurrect the dead remaining in the city. The event is over, and the originals may gain the memories of what their clones did in their absence.

nick is getting a double! and since nick is a nickbane, that means her double is too! AND THAT MEANS SHE GONNA CAUSE A WHOLE LOTTA DAMAGE :'D you can read up on nick's nightbane powers here, if you'd like.

the important thing is i am looking for volunteers to go up against faux-nick, fight her, possible get injured/maimed ... and potentially get healed by real-nick, because i would love for her to discover that she has a healing power at her disposal now.

HOO BOY SO because I have no self-control whatsoever I've made an account for Sans's double. He'll be just as lazy and unmotivated as the real Sans, but about one shitbillion times nastier when it comes to everything else. Unlike the real Sans, he doesn't care a whit if he dismantles interpersonal relationships between himself and others, and will in fact set about to do just that. Sans is a manipulative guy by default, so just imagine someone with that cranked up to eleven, minus any and all restraint.

Oh yeah, and he'll be eager to make Sans's life in the future as difficult as possible too. This means making terrible first impressions on people who've never met him (so newbies and potential CR, don't be afraid to come forth!), being deliberately if underhandedly nasty to everyone he sees, and so on. He'll especially want to damage any positive CR Sans has with anyone oh boy

ALSO he'll know that his time as a concept is somewhat limited, so he won't care for repercussions since he'll know they'll rebound onto the real Sans rather than the false one. So especially as the event reaches its end, he'll be acting out in more and more absurd and destructive ways with little to no regard for how he's perceived - just to make people hate Sans a little bit more!

Rin Okumura is going to not be a part of this event. It's hard to imagine a destructive double for him when he already has a hard enough time by himself.

Yukari Mishakuji, on the other hand, will be a shameless flirt. So, he's open to awkwardly hit on anyone 18+. No one? Oh, well. Then you're all in for a pretty bad time. Rose's double is going to ruin her life by exposing her darkest secret: that she eats soylent green. AND SOYLENT GREEN IS *GASP* PEOPLE!!! The double will be super sweet and peppy and personable just like Rose is but will strike once she has the opportunity. Which is actually something Rose herself did at the starts of her newfound diet and will be especially life-ruining to have thrown in her face.

Original!Rose will immediately confront and probably battle with her double but since she's a coward who has a lot of issues re: killing herself, she will run and hide as she does. Though if she finds out the double!Rose has harmed anyone she cares about, all bets are off and she'll come to the rescue and try to end her double. Or her double will end her. I haven't actually decided yet. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hey kids, who wants to learn about genocide? Because Chara's double would LOVE to teach you =)

Chara's double will be acting as much as they do during post genocide/pacifist, with the twist that they absolutely have no emotions! They will pretend to have them but there's no pesky feelings to get in the way of gut-stabbing someone out of the blue, which they will do. You guys have to be worth something after all. In addition to this, Chara's double will have stolen the post genocide/pacifist photo the real Chara received during the Keepsake plot. So that's fun!

They will likely be going after any positive CR that Chara has managed to obtain in Hadriel or any newbies that are unfortunate enough to wander across them. I'm going to put up a blanket warning that interacting with Chara's double contains the likely possibility of them trying to hurt your character physically and possible mentions of suicide and child abuse because they don't care about their Real's privacy. But if you'd still like to play with them, I'd be happy to tone this down!

So Asriel's double will look exactly like him, of course, and that means being a little goat-person-thing. But personality-wise, he might be a little more... fake-cheery? Passive-aggressive? Openly and viciously manipulative? READY TO MURDER??

Asriel's Big Secret is that he's kind of sort of also a soulless sentient flower who played god with the timeline and killed repeatedly without a shred of remorse, and his double is going to reflect that. He's not gonna care one bit about Asriel's fakey-fake little "oh boy I can start over and try to be a good person" thing or that whole "I'm just going to pretend all that killing stuff wasn't really me" jive. He'll be going out of his way to make sure anyone he meets knows that he's still every bit the soulless killer he's always been!

But, you know, in a cutesy, smiley kind of way. =)

On one hand, Rey will be a lucky duck and not get killed by her doppelgänger before the event's end. On the other hand, you'll have a manipulative, underhanded mass murdering sociopath on the loose. Yay? Yay.

But she'll be interested in more than just sating her bloodlust. She will probably commiserate with any fellow doppelgängers and individuals who are inclined towards violence, as well as being a bit more forthcoming with dirty secrets than her original.

Rey's mental filter is already a bit of a joke, but expect it to be cranked down to negative eleven at this point. She will also express absolutely no liking for anything machine that possesses its own sentience, and regard them as soulless objects rather than individuals. So any robots/androids might have a unique reaction from her. The irony is that she is basically a "machine" herself, at the very core.

For a long while now Rey has been doing a pretty good job at keeping this side of her capped. The doppelgänger, however, will feel no such inclination. Rather than just attempting to go on a full-on spree, she is likely going to attempt to dispatch her counterpart in some way in order to commence being the life ruiner that she is.

So yeah, that's the gist of it. I have no solid plans yet but I am open to plotting with any current and new CR!

Alphys

So the deal with Alphys, for the canonblind, is that she has a looot of past mistakes she is trying to sweep under the rug. After getting appointed Royal Scientist, she ended up doing lots of secret experiments and, long story short, causing a bunch of near-death monsters to have their bodies literally melt into amalgamates of multiple monsters. On top of that she literally dragged someone's soul back from the dead and trapped them in a flower (see: asriel's entry), which she... does not even know she did at this point. It should be stressed this was all an accident, but Alphys takes it very hard, and in her time right before Hadriel, also accidentally lead her best friend to his death, and killed herself by throwing herself off a waterfall's edge.

naturally, of course, this has aaaaaall been a secret... that her double will be wanting to expose, because as soon as Alphys knows people know her secrets, she'll take care of herself =) so Alphys' double will be utterly remorseless, and while Alphys can't really fight (and therefore her double likely won't be doing much killing), she knows her words will hit her where it matters, and will likely be seeking out her close CR and anyone she can get her hands on, really, to spill Alphys' dirty secrets. While she isn't strong, she won't be going down without a fight if attacked, and will use a variety of electricity-based magic and bombs.

SO TL;DR ALPHYS IS GOING TO NEED. SOME HELP. because the chances of her beating her double are about a negative seventeen and her instinct will basically be to wander off and let a monster eat her because good golly she has no coping mechanisms even resembling recovery

Opting out Nick Valentine because with all his network surveillance, work with the Guard files, and just general stuff he knows, he could cause a lot of problems that I'd proooooobably struggle to keep up with ICly. That, and he already has problems with identity and doesn't need more of them. :(

BUT CARLISLE. He's got some plans already with Glacius and Shadow, but his double will be stirring up trouble with his influence ability, probably by compelling people to do legitimately terrible things, so if anyone is up for having their character compelled to murder folks, murder themselves, murder all of their favorite things, or anything else you can think of, let me know! His double is out to make sure everyone knows he's a legitimate danger to everyone around him. What fun!

(Also, if anyone would like to kill said double because of compulsion reasons, I am game for that.)

Pharah's double will have a devil-may-care/give-no-fucks kind of attitude, and will attempt to give her friends the impression she only keeps them around for very specific uses - like tools. Her double will try to invalidate any genuine connection. Pharah herself is righteous and honest and it will anger her to her core to have someone going around making people feel they've been manipulated and used by her.

It will culminate in an epic aerial showdown. Not sure yet who will bite the bullet, so put your votes in now! If wanted, feel free to get caught in the crossfire and have errant rockets interrupting your own shit (just know that if it was Real!Phara's rocket she's going to Feel Terrible About It Forever).

This lucky man here has the joy of having a canon evil double! So this whole event is going to be kind of a blast from the past for him, and will unearth more of his issues. Dark Kain is a jealous, cruel person, one who will backstab or kidnap his own friends. He also has a good deal of Kain's self-loathing, so he's definitely going to try and sabotage the real Kain... he'll tell all of his deep dark secrets.

considering there is like... all of one person here that ahsoka wouldn't expertly throw her life down to protect in all of the hellcave, her double wants to show off how easy it would be for ahsoka to be a bad guy to get what she wants ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

her double is going to be even more aggressive than the original is, with a focus on making sure everyone respects the shit out of her, preferably through terror and intimidation (and maybe some jedi mind tricks, with permission). if it's ever been anyone's dream to be cornered by what amounts to a vengeful, magic tiger lady with laser swords, this is the event for you!! ahsoka's double will still rescue people in mortal peril, but depending on how grateful they are and whether or not they basically decide to worship her and her bad attitude, they may wind up wishing she hadn't.

once ahsoka pieces together what's happened (probably from offended previously positive cr, lbr) she's going to hunt her double down and fight her to the death and make a narrative point about balance being stronger than the dark side because this is a star wars character we're talking about here. i'd really love an audience for this, because it's probably going to look wild.

Faith... lmao... Look, Faith's double will try to burn it all. She will start with the temples (which will mainly piss off the gods, who Faith now cares about), and then make her way to the clinic. It's at that point that the real Faith will throw down and fight her. And lose. :c iirc Kate's double will be augmenting evil Faith's power (do u remember Silent Hill...), which means real Faith won't be able to kill her double. She will die, and then iirc real Kate will take both the superhuman doubles out.

AM will likely sit this event out due to the fact that he just arrived and is still trying to figure out using an actual body that can actually move and feel and stuff. Plus, he doesn't know anyone here yet!

However, I love love love evil double events and I am so sad that it just isn't feasible for AM to participate at this moment. Regardless I do want him to hit up other doubles.

If you want AM to have horrible, blackmailing dirt on your characters, please do have him interact with their doubles and he will keep this blackmail in a special place. :') Plus he's also fairly weak right now as he still is figuring out this whole "having a body" thing, so please feel free to be violent or horrible toward him. (He deserves it ngl)

Will Graham

Will is going to have his double causing quite a lot of trouble for him, as well as everyone else. For those of you familiar with the Hannibal canon, you might remember the Chesapeake Ripper and how Hannibal was trying to frame and convince Will that he was, in fact, the murderer. Well, for this event, Will's double is going to be that man! He's going to be everything Will was scared of being.

What does this mean for you? Well, it's simple really! Will's double is going to be targeting people to kill. Not only is he going to be going around killing as he pleases, but he's also going to be taking organs from his victims and eating them... Possibly even trying to get unsuspected people to eat the organs with him.

There is going to be no obvious difference between Will and his double, so if you know Will well enough or have only encountered him a few times, you probably won't notice adifference until it's too late!

Will's double is going to kidnap Will and try to take over his life. He's going to be going after people Will has significant CR with be it positive or negative so watch your back! Towards the end of the event, Will is going to manage to get free and fight his double, resulting in him killing his double (after getting royally fucked up!)

Not really got any massively exciting plans for Tina during this, mostly going to have her and her double arguing between themselves and going around together terrorizing the residents of Hadriel.

The only real danger is, Tina's double will not be as careful what she'd blowing up. So! If you're down to have her ruin some of your property or part of your home, let me know!

Turing

Turing hasn't really made a lot of friends yet, and Turing's double is too small and cowardly to try murdering anyone, so they'll be resorting to property destruction and offending Turing's sensibilities instead!

They'll be destroying any art Turing had started to work on while in Hadriel, kidnapping the original Turing and spraypainting them, covering everything in eyesearing graffitti, and generally being incredibly rude and irritating.

Maketh Tua

You know how Maketh's had her crisis of faith and resolved to be a better person and not use large scale murder to solve all her problems? Her double will not be sharing those sentiments. The double will also be a fanatic Imperial, utterly devoted to the cause of expanding the Empire, and will consider any ally of real!Maketh's to be a threat. The double also firmly believes in murder as a problem solving tool.

Currently, her double is slated to kill Henry Percy, then kill the original Maketh, and go on a villain rant about the superiority of the Empire. She will also be working to undermine the guardsmen in any way she can.

Bring it.

peter parker & jack benjamin

peter parker just got here so opting him out. but he is available to web up doubles - or originals, oops.

jack benjamin has always had a touch of spite in him, and has dealt with his life through alcohol, denial, and occasional bursts of violence. he's gradually tried to do better while in the cave, largely thanks to the examples of better people. his double will be having none of that. it will be determined to ruin things for him through as many selfish words and actions as possible, all the while trying to shame and convince jack that this is who he really is anyway. jack's double won't be trying to kill the original, since it wants him to witness as much of this as possible, but it will be as slippery as a snake. if anyone wants to plot out killing his double, i'm in!

cecily trevelyan & hannah washington

let's start with hannah!! she will be immediately killed by her double, since she won't be expecting anything, will be horrified to see a double that isn't beth, and has no experience fighting or defending herself. the double will be working with beth's double to exact revenge on the rest of the cast, first, and then... probably to sit back and relax with a drink for a job well done. who knows?? ANYWAY, someone is more than welcome to take her out (particularly someone in the UD cast) either before or after she's done some damage...

cecily will be better off. her double will also try to kill her right away, but she has a lot more experience in this arena. the wounded double will run off, leaving the inquisitor to (at least try and) warn her friends about the encounter. she will then scour the city looking to finish the job, but the double will evade her fairly well and try to pretend she's the real thing in order to hurt cecily's friends and castmates.

leliana's double is going to mess with her before trying to kill her. it'd be a more 'if leliana had completely gone with marjolaine' type thing, so she's going to be extra sneaky and invisible. when she eventually tries to take out leliana i think kate is taking her out?? but i'm open for anything before that!!!

Adam Parrish

Adam's double will only be running around for a day or two before he runs into it, decides it's much better off gone, and kills it. That's not emotionally scarring or anything, so it's fine. After that he'll mainly be dealing with other people's doubles, I think, though that part is all a little up in the air! If you'd like him to run into yours, I'm down with that. He'll be unlikely to kill anyone else's double unless his life is on the line, and then he would feel very bad if they were his friend.

If you want to run into his double before he kills it, that's doable too. It will be inclined to attack people's emotional weaknesses and attempt to drive what few friends Adam has away. It will also be not at all averse to using physical violence, either, though it'd be more likely to do that if Adam is around to see, because it would really upset him. But again, it won't have the chance to do TOO much damage! I'm happy to have anyone run into the double before Adam kills it, though.

Matt is sitting out having a double, because most of the people he'd do awful things to are his cast members and the twins are having enough awful as is, and anything with Em would just be unnecessary retreading. I'm up for him running into people's doubles though!

Kate... well, it's been a while since I ruined her life, so of course she's getting a double. Said double is basically what happens when a girl successfully shuts down her emotions and morals and only really cares about making sure her evil BFF gets to wreck shit as much as possible. She'll also have quite the fun time augmenting said BFF's powers and running into any CR of Kate's just to remind them that, yes, she is the same person who killed and tortured for The Agency. Don't believe the smokescreen of the workaholic clinic admin, please.

Bianca kind of already is the evil double of her original identity, and so she won't be doubling up.

however there are people here whose lives she wouldn't mind ruining, and she basically enjoys chaos and a certain amount of suffering, so if you want someone to help your evil double she might be your girl.

ETA: and if/when she works out that doubles are a thing she will really want to compile everyone's dirty secrets.
