Event Post: Bad End
THE RUNDOWN
THE DETAILS
THE OVERVIEW
Sorrow and Hope won the poll! Probably for the best, as Sorrow usually runs things anyway and Hope is the apparent assassination target. Now that they know that they'll be leading us through these dark times, it's time for them to get energized! And of course, there's only one way to do that- through a combination event!
You may remember our Hopeful Future event, in which everyone received a hand mirror that displayed the future that they want most. For this event, Sorrow has decided to give you the exact opposite- a bad future that your character may dread the most! On Wednesday, August 23rd, all characters will wake up with a similar-looking mirror by their bedside- silver, six inches in diameter, and ornate with intricate patterns in the metalwork. When looking into this mirror, they'll see the future they dread the most.
Maybe you regret killing that one guy and now you see that his family is coming after you. Maybe you're in love, but you see yourself living alone, or at your loved one's grave. Maybe you're surrounded by people you hate, or you're living in poverty- either way, it's something that you really don't want to see, and it's something that haunts your every move.
You can't escape from it, either. Even if you throw away the mirror, your reflection on all shiny surfaces will show the you that you dread most- maybe haggard, maybe old or scarred, or maybe sinister and sadistic- either way, you're probably going to have a hard time getting makeup on this month.
On September 5th, all reflections will be back to normal, and mirrors will vanish into a puff of smoke, with Sorrow and Hope both sated. Now you can finally fix your hair without being reminded of what a colossal screwup you could become!
THE DETAILS
Mirrors can be broken, but unless you plan on breaking all reflective surfaces in Hadriel, it's difficult to really prevent yourself from seeing what you fear most. All reflections must be something within the realm of possibility for your character- or at least, something that they think is possible. If your goody-two-shoes guy would never hurt a fly, but is terrified that he could be a villain, then it's possible for him to see himself as such!
Throughout this event, characters may feel a mild compulsion to look into other people's mirrors, if they're around. It's not anything that forces characters to act against their will, but the spark of curiosity will make them want to, even if they know they shouldn't.
The purpose of this event is both to feel dread and sorrow at the idea of ending up a certain way, but also to hope to hell that you don't. In this regard, both gods (and, coincidentally, Fear) will get a burst of power and be able to use it to further investigate this Null crisis.
Don't let it bother you too much, and do try not to break any of the glass- that's seven years of bad luck, you know!
THE OVERVIEW
► August 23rd: Mirrors appear near characters as they wake up
► September 5th: Mirrors disappear! Not all of them, just the magic ones.
