Event Post: Ghosts That We Know

THE RUNDOWN
In the wake of Delight and Rage leaving the city, Sorrow and Love decide to put on a citywide event, as Sorrow hasn't had an event in quite awhile and Love needs to have their first one. Therefore, beginning on June 21st, all affected characters will have associated 'ghosts', who are representations of people who that character loves or people who have loved that character. The ghosts will think and act as similarly as the people they are based on as possible. Throughout the early stages of the event, the ghosts will be... well, ghostly- translucent, pale, and most importantly, only visible to your character.

However, these ghosts are solid and can be touched by their anchor characters, but nobody else will be able to interact with them for the first few days of the event. As the event carries on, the host characters will find themselves feeling lethargic, tired, and overall just unmotivated to do much while their ghost grows stronger. They'll find themselves sleeping longer without any feeling of restfulness, with little desire to eat or exercise. While this happens, their ghost becomes more solid, growing in strength until all ghosts are able to fully materialize on July 26th and will then be fully visible to and able to interact with other characters.

Unfortunately, it doesn't end there. As the ghosts become solid to everyone around them, they will continue draining energy from their host, until the host dies on June 29th. The only way to prevent death is to kill your associated ghost. After June 26th, somebody else can kill your ghost for you. After ghosts are killed, the tiring effects will be mitigated within a few hours, and your characters will be right as rain again! Emotional trauma notwithstanding, of course.

THE DETAILS
Ghosts will begin to appear on June 21st. They are, essentially, honest recreations of these loved ones from a character's mind- their knowledge will be limited to the character's knowledge, but they will have their own unique thoughts and feelings in alignment with their characterization in their canon. Each character will be limited to three ghosts each (though one will be the most common), and a presence of more ghosts will not worsen the effects or increase the intensity of the lethargy as the event progresses. Similarly, if someone has multiple ghosts, all must be killed to lessen the effects on the character.

In addition, the ghosts only drain energy from their hosts, not their surroundings. Ghosts can be people that your character knows very well, or someone that they idolized once- they don't have to be people that your character specifically remembers, if their memory of that person was wiped.

The ghosts will initially not realize that they are draining energy from their hosts, but as the situation becomes more clear with them growing stronger, then most of them will likely arrive at that conclusion. What they do then is up to their characterization- if they'd prefer to keep living and draining their host, or if they'd ask for death. However, they will not understand their status as ghosts and they are, for all intents and purposes, alive. Therefore, asking someone to kill them to spare their host will be akin to a real person sacrificing themselves for someone else. Heavy stuff!

For characters with ghost sensing or ghost communicating powers, you will be able to interact with other characters' ghosts before the 26th, but only with explicit permission from the player!

After the 26th, when ghosts become solid, then killing them is the same as killing anyone else- they will bleed and it'll probably be a nightmare to clean up. However, as the character begins recovering their strength over the span of several hours, the body and evidence of the murder will also become more and more transparent until it disappears entirely.

And of course, if the ghost is not killed then the host will die on the 29th. Death will kill both the host and the ghost, as it has no more source energy. The ghost will die at the same time as the host- this means that if any host is killed prematurely, then their ghost dies with them and is not revived when they come back. At the end of the event, either all ghosts are killed or all hosts with unkilled ghosts die (causing their ghosts to die as well).

Then all the characters are revived and everyone starts dealing with what just happened. Yay, PTSD!THE OVERVIEW

► June 21st: Ghosts begin to appear and converse with their hosts
► June 26th: Ghosts are now solid enough to appear to everyone else and function like real people
► June 29th: We put the 'murder' back in 'murdercave' as everyone dies or is killed by the end of the 29th.

Cashmere will see her twin brother, Gloss, which she will find both unsettling and exciting. They were very very close and she's going to overall be pretty into the idea of having him around even if he's more dead than she is. It'll bother her a little bit when she starts to realize that having him around may or may not be killing her, but will ultimately convince herself that she would sacrifice everything for him, including her own life, and everything is therefore Fine. (narrator: it wasn't fine).

Cashmere will make no attempts to harm Gloss in any way, and because of that will end up dying. Better to die together in some sort of bizarre sibling Romeo and Juliet situation than handle the situation with reason or logic, right? right.

Unless someone wants to kill Gloss for her? She won't be happy with anyone who does that.

Oooh I'd want Richie to be in on this! I think he'd want to have a look at the person Cashmere says is the Greatest Ever. He wouldn't kill him though because in this instance killing Gloss would be an act of "this is for your own good" and I don't think that applies to either of them unless it's somehow self beneficial. I could see him calling her out on the Romeo and Juliet shenanigans tho. >_>

Nate will be seeing his amazing and perfect wife, Elena, which is going to make this entire event all the more shitty because while this fun-lovin' rowdy boy has literally killed hundreds of mercenaries there is no way in Hell he can kill Elena unless she's a hallucination that somehow grows fangs and turns into a yeti or something.

But she won't. So. Either someone is going to have to dispatch the ghost for him, or he's going to straight up waste away into nothing. :')

Duck will be seeing two ghosts - his bff, Clementine, and his dad, Kenny. They're both from his canon, along with memories of their time with him in box (a game he was in before hadriel). He will... not be able to kill them, even knowing they're not real. Though if Duck realises they aren't real (which... he probably will, through others) then Kenny and Clem will want to do the right thing and have someone kill them.

Right now, I don't really have plans beyond this. If you wanna plan something out or wanna have your character kill them, let me know!! Otherwise Duck will be getting his first death in hadriel. :') yay?

it's my hopes that killing duck's dad will make up for me not hitting him up sooner

oh man i think duck might already have someone to murder them now - at least she's gonna tell them what's what and it'll probably go that way

but you're free to tag him on his top level here and meet kenny/clem earlier or deal with him after he's lost them. or i'll happily tag bigby somewhere! we def need some telltale cr!

George will be seeing her little sister, Reggie. Obviously George won't be able to kill her, so she'll need some help.

George's relationship with Reggie was complicated. George mostly ignored her while George was still alive and didn't really bond with her until after George's death. And by "bond," I mean, sort of stalk because she wasn't supposed to interact with her family.

ok

so

magnus is gonna be seeing his late wife julia who is the reason hes like got no fucking self preservation instinct because he fully intends on dying to see her again sooner rather than later :') he is not going to be able to kill her, shes going to want to die rather than kill him, its gonna be a whole fucking thing. he is fully intending on dying this event, BUT taako and merle get dibs on killing her for him rather than let him die

because tru friends kill ur ghost wife for u i guess..... i GUESS!!! hes not gonna be fucking happy about it

ANYWAY i love julia more than life itself so i will definitely be up for threading her with anyone in the meantime before shes killed! magnus will be getting a toplevel so if you want to do anything like, idk, offer to kill her only for magnus to get mad at u, or just be like hey what a nice funny lady, or run into him after the deed is done and hes Inconsolable, im down for it all!!!! come at me!!! im ready to die at high speed!!!!

lITTLE LATE but howdy!!

Delta will be seeing Sinclair for his ghost, the guy who's basically his only friend that isn't his daughter and a pretty big reason as to why he was actually able to get to Eleanor in the first place/make his way through Rapture. he also. had to kill him so he's gonna have a suspicion that sinclair isn't actually there, but hell he came back to life so why not radio bff too
he's probably going to let sinclair chill for a while, out of a mix of curiosity, nostalgia, guilt, and thinking he can absolutely handle the load once he figures out there's some siphoning going on--so eventually, it'll be entirely possible to thread with him and i am 100% down for that. he was a pretty big-name businessman in Rapture, and is a charming southern gentleman who started out being in it for his own ends but got attached/learned how to conscience and i am probably going to die doing these threads.

BUT YEAH by the time it starts getting to be too much for Delta, Sinclair's going to request somebody kill him if his host doesn't do it himself. which may be a little hard for him, all things considered. he'll be kinda bad off by then.
Delta's also available if anybody needs their ghosts killed--once he recovers a bit, he'll want to help people out with ghostbusting where he can. he'll be as nice as possible about it, but he'll still kill 'em pretty quick.

Luke can see Owen. Anakin's out for obvious reasons, and he has no memory of Padme, so she's out. And I don't know enough out his body-snatching ex girlfriend to pull her up.

But...he can see the other Anakin...his nephew.

And I think two's enough...
