Event Post: Ghosts That We Know
THE RUNDOWN
In the wake of Delight and Rage leaving the city, Sorrow and Love decide to put on a citywide event, as Sorrow hasn't had an event in quite awhile and Love needs to have their first one. Therefore, beginning on June 21st, all affected characters will have associated 'ghosts', who are representations of people who that character loves or people who have loved that character. The ghosts will think and act as similarly as the people they are based on as possible. Throughout the early stages of the event, the ghosts will be... well, ghostly- translucent, pale, and most importantly, only visible to your character.
However, these ghosts are solid and can be touched by their anchor characters, but nobody else will be able to interact with them for the first few days of the event. As the event carries on, the host characters will find themselves feeling lethargic, tired, and overall just unmotivated to do much while their ghost grows stronger. They'll find themselves sleeping longer without any feeling of restfulness, with little desire to eat or exercise. While this happens, their ghost becomes more solid, growing in strength until all ghosts are able to fully materialize on July 26th and will then be fully visible to and able to interact with other characters.
Unfortunately, it doesn't end there. As the ghosts become solid to everyone around them, they will continue draining energy from their host, until the host dies on June 29th. The only way to prevent death is to kill your associated ghost. After June 26th, somebody else can kill your ghost for you. After ghosts are killed, the tiring effects will be mitigated within a few hours, and your characters will be right as rain again! Emotional trauma notwithstanding, of course.
THE DETAILS
Ghosts will begin to appear on June 21st. They are, essentially, honest recreations of these loved ones from a character's mind- their knowledge will be limited to the character's knowledge, but they will have their own unique thoughts and feelings in alignment with their characterization in their canon. Each character will be limited to three ghosts each (though one will be the most common), and a presence of more ghosts will not worsen the effects or increase the intensity of the lethargy as the event progresses. Similarly, if someone has multiple ghosts, all must be killed to lessen the effects on the character.
In addition, the ghosts only drain energy from their hosts, not their surroundings. Ghosts can be people that your character knows very well, or someone that they idolized once- they don't have to be people that your character specifically remembers, if their memory of that person was wiped.
The ghosts will initially not realize that they are draining energy from their hosts, but as the situation becomes more clear with them growing stronger, then most of them will likely arrive at that conclusion. What they do then is up to their characterization- if they'd prefer to keep living and draining their host, or if they'd ask for death. However, they will not understand their status as ghosts and they are, for all intents and purposes, alive. Therefore, asking someone to kill them to spare their host will be akin to a real person sacrificing themselves for someone else. Heavy stuff!
For characters with ghost sensing or ghost communicating powers, you will be able to interact with other characters' ghosts before the 26th, but only with explicit permission from the player!
After the 26th, when ghosts become solid, then killing them is the same as killing anyone else- they will bleed and it'll probably be a nightmare to clean up. However, as the character begins recovering their strength over the span of several hours, the body and evidence of the murder will also become more and more transparent until it disappears entirely.
And of course, if the ghost is not killed then the host will die on the 29th. Death will kill both the host and the ghost, as it has no more source energy. The ghost will die at the same time as the host- this means that if any host is killed prematurely, then their ghost dies with them and is not revived when they come back. At the end of the event, either all ghosts are killed or all hosts with unkilled ghosts die (causing their ghosts to die as well).
Then all the characters are revived and everyone starts dealing with what just happened. Yay, PTSD!THE OVERVIEW
► June 21st: Ghosts begin to appear and converse with their hosts
► June 26th: Ghosts are now solid enough to appear to everyone else and function like real people
► June 29th: We put the 'murder' back in 'murdercave' as everyone dies or is killed by the end of the 29th.
