Monthly Rundown: December Edition

Welcome to the monthly rundown for December! As Arc 2 winds down into the holiday season, we're going to take things a bit slower- but don't assume that this means that there's nothing to do! From working through the aftermath of the Null attack to exploring a new world, there's plenty of stuff for you guys to sink your teeth into!

As always, if you ever have any suggestions or feedback you'd like to offer us mods, remember you can always drop us a line here! Also, please remember to hit up the Current AC post if you have AC for the month! Characters accepted in November do not require AC proofs, but we do require a check-in on the post!

DECEMBER PART 1: THE AFTERMATH
The first half of December continues with the second arc event, with a continuation of the raging battle with the Null, Delight's betrayal, and Fear's attempts to move the city.

The battle will eclipse the Intro Log, which brings in a new source of chaos, as the newcomers to the city are thrust into a conflict that they have no stake in and no idea about. It's up to you guys to save them or use them as decoys while you continue your raging battle with the Null.

Complicating the issue is the fact that alongside the newcomers, the Door is bringing in salamanders. These amphibious monsters aren't like the geckos you used to catch at the river; instead they're about eight inches in length and are heated like molten lava to the touch. Contact with their skin will immediately cause whatever brushed up against them them to burn into flames. While they don't spit fire, they leave burning trails of smoke and small flames in their wake, and even one salamander left unchecked can start a massive blaze throughout the city.

If only they weren't so cute...

DECEMBER PART 2: A WHOLE NEW WORLD
On December 12th, there will be a sudden change in location as Fear teleports the city again, and for the first time in Hadriel History, the setting will change noticeably, as the city is transferred from living under a cave to living aboveground on an alien planet.

More details about this planet will come later, but as a brief overview: the layout and architecture of the basic city will remain the same, so while there will be significant edits to the map to account for all the action that happened in the battle, the basic structure of the city will remain similar to what everyone is familiar with. However, instead of constricting walls, characters will find themselves in a strange and rocky world, one with bright landscapes and dozens of brightly-colored springs.

As far as the day cycle goes, the new city location will have two suns: one ruthlessly hot, and one slightly more temperate. Due to the positioning of the suns, there is constant daylight, though one sun is brighter than the other. When both suns are out, the temperature jumps to be almost unbearable- luckily, this only happens for an hour or two during the solar cycle.

The landscape of the city and surrounding area is bleached, rocky terrain and it is rather flat, with few mountains or valleys to speak of. There are stark trees dotting the landscape as well, but they're sparse and there seems to be little rhyme or reason to them. It looks almost like the surface of a moon in that it is unremarkable, with few living things and nothing to obstruct the view for miles in every direction.

However, there is one thing that you can distract yourself with: dotting the landscape are pools of water, some of which are an inch or two deep, some of which are unfathomable, darker down the further it goes, with hints of underwater tunnels that may give access to other pools and location. These pools are vivid and colorful, and while the water is warm, it is not too hot to comfortably swim in.

Enjoy your stay!

DECEMBER PART 3: SHINING, SHIMMERING, SPLASHING
So you're safe now. Awesome, right?

Wrong. The gods are drained, Delight is captured, Sorrow is dead, half of your meeting places are destroyed, many of you are still dead, and it looks like we're in for a brutal Christmas. Hope is having difficulty sustaining you all on his meager power supply, and so he needs you to come up with a few alternatives and come up with them fast.

The second half of December will be all about trying to make this strange new land your home by whatever means necessary. Plant a few seeds you saved from Sorrow's razed orchard, make an old fashioned wind turbine, hunt the remaining monsters (because those are still there of course, though there are markedly fewer of them than there were before). But do it quick because your food supply can't keep up with the demand and more of you are being revived each day.

In addition to this, the pools of water, while safe to drink, will be tinged with the essences of the gods. You pretty much have to drink it if you require water to function, but many of the pools will affect you emotionally, as well as giving you fragments of the god blessings and other abilities! We should... probably clean those out, huh.

Toward the end of the month, on December 27th, there will be an NPC post that will ask you all to weigh in on Delight's fate. Think carefully about what you think would be most fitting for her! She will still not have network access up until this point, so good luck trying to get a good explanation out of her...

TO RECAP...

► December 10th: Intro log!
► December 12th: The city is moved. Welcome to your new home!
► December 13th-27th: Shining, Shimmering, Splashing Event
► December 27th: NPC post
As a final note, our schedule for the month is viewable on the calendar!
circumitus: What if cement was really a rainbow color they just secretly paint it grey so as not to distract drivers? (what if...)

Just to make sure, I'm assuming the state of "constant daylight"/perpetual heat will change eventually like the original wonky day/night cycle went? (I can just see that wearing thin on some characters real fast, lol.)
nonscriptum: we're gonna turn this debacle into a straight up "bacle" (don't worry. it's gonna be fine.)

I have a fewreally nerdy questions regarding the suns to go in the later post. Are they both main-sequence stars, or is one or both of them a giant, a dwarf, or otherwise? And what colours are they; are they yellow-white like our sun, or red, or blue-white, each a different colour, etc? Or are they different temperatures mostly because of distance rather than being different types of stars?

...And okay I admit I'm mostly asking because I think having different coloured sunlight is super cool.

HI HELLO THIS IS GREAT and i figure this will be answered later, but are all the cave monsters going to be teleported along with the city? asking for a friend that friend is science.

And in a similar vein, does Carlisle's garden get ported with the rest of the park?

Will the daylight / extra strong daylight hours correspond to something regular on the clock app (e.g. extra strong daylight is always 12 - 2 pm) or will it fluctuate? I suppose what I'm asking is will the planet be operating on a 24 hour cycle or otherwise?

Will Sharon have access to Silent Hill (or the Otherworld/whatever you want to call her take on reality) on the new planet? I hear it's much cooler there, y'know, with all that fog and stuff.
