Monthly Rundown: August Edition

Still enjoying the islands? Waiting for your ship to come in? Don't worry, you all did enough for the gods to supply something, so things are gonna get a little... adventurous around here. At least, for anyone who wants it to.

Also, please remember to hit up the Current AC post if you have AC for the month! Characters accepted in July do not require AC proofs, but we do require a check-in on the post!

AUGUST PART 1: A MOMENT TO BREATHE

The first week of the month will be spent in relative peace. The gods have the power they requested, and now they'll step back a bit to take the time to make what they promised. As such, they'll leave everyone alone... for a little while. Enjoy it while you can!

As usual, on August 10th the Door will open and a handful of newcomers will arrive. Along with them will come rust monsters from Dungeons & Dragons and various other tabletop settings.

Rust monsters are large, somewhat insectoid creatures. They have a vicious bite, but worse than that, anything metal that touches them instantly begins to corrode. We sure hope that wasn't your favorite sword! You can always get another from Rage's temple, though, so don't worry too much. Unless you brought it from home. That would suck.

AUGUST PART 2: ACROSS THE SEVEN SEAS

You all worked hard to give them power, and the gods will reward you by creating all the supplies you'll need to travel across the water and find those fragments! Hopefully. If Name wasn't lying. Some of the items will be a little nicer than others, depending on how many people supported them, but every god got a bit of power - so you'll get something, at least.

On August 13th, the gods will provide the ships and other items they promised. This will kick off the search for the Door fragments! Much like the collection of Hope power on the previous planet, this will span about a month and a half, ending at the end of September. People will be able to leave the city islands and return to them if necessary, though some of these journeys are a little more long-term than the ones on the previous planet - since a couple of the fragments are quite far away.

We'll post two logs, one on August 13th and one at the beginning of September, meant to be catch-all logs for all the adventures in each month. Please be on the lookout for an OOC Post about the search for the Door fragments, which will be posted before the first log goes up. There's lots of adventuring to be done! But don't worry - staying in the city sure won't be boring either.

AUGUST PART 3: DESERTED

A good half of the gods are still fairly sure the fragments are a trap. That means they need to be ready to move the city in an instant if the Null attack - which means, of course, Fear needs power. Anyone who's out of the city, exploring, will be unaffected, but if you stay... look forward to a rough week or so.

Starting August 21st, all those remaining in the city will suddenly find that they are the only ones in the city. Everything else is utterly deserted, and everyone else has mysteriously vanished. You are alone, with only a small group of remaining survivors. What's more, the network no longer works, as if even the gods have vanished. You will be alone in the city until August 30th, at which point everyone mysteriously returns, and things go back to normal. See! Everything's fine! Sorry about all those heart attacks!

On an OOC level, the event will work like this: like the previous world's exploration, in that OOC post there'll be a thread to sign up your characters for the exploration event. Everyone who does not tell us that they will be adventuring in the world exploration post will be divided into small groups for the Deserted event. For the duration of the event, the only people they'll be able to see or interact with in the city are those in their group - everyone else is completely missing. We will be RNG-ing the groups, but if you have a strong preference for your character being in a group with (or without) another character, please let us know here (or via PM).

Keep in mind that we would very greatly prefer RNG'ed groups, as this event is meant to promote IC connection and character interactions outside of established CR. We also don't yet know how big the groups will be, since we don't know who's going on adventures across the ocean! Groups will be posted when the event OOC post goes up before the event.

Will there be some dangers or monsters for groups to come upon during the exploration event? Or will we just want to handwave/figure that out with the groups ourselves?

haven't decided if he's even going yet but: how will the "network is down" mechanic work with regard to those who went out on adventures? does the network just already not work that far out? can they contact each other but not the city?

The further away from the city the travelers get, the spottier the network will be (just like before), but when they are able to use it they'll still be able to talk to each other. However, they will be completely unable to contact the city during the event. Whether they chalk this up to network spottiness or something more sinister will be up to you!

Just like with the last event, there will be some general dangers that everyone can run into and some specific dangers that will be given to volunteers (with RNG).

For the people who stay behind, is their personal stuff still there? Or do they wake up and their homes are bare and everything is missing?

It will all still be there. The only things missing from the city are all the people - though during the event the gods will also not be maintaining their magic (the shops won't be restocked, the hot springs will dry up, etc).

For those who stay behind in the deserted plot, I assume that communication between groups will not be possible, for those who have psychic abilities?

You're correct, their psychic abilities will be unable to reach outside their group.

Three four little questions,

1. Aside from the network not working, will telepathy between characters work if they are not together in a group?

2. If a character /cough wants to suddenly leave the islands because of reasons, to follow those who already left in hopes to reach them, can they still find the little boats they were given? Can they leave at all?

3. Also, what if those who are exploring suddenly are like NOPE LET'S GO BACK during the event? What would happen?

4. Sorry, thought of something else, the voice messages and texts sent during the event, will they get lost forever as in never delivered, or would people receive them later when things get fixed? Inb4 spamming peeps's inboxes.

1. Telepathy will only work between people in their group.

2. They could find the small boats, if they wanted to, but those won't get them very far in the choppy seas around the islands.

3. We can go more in depth if that happens, but long story short: they won't be able to interrupt the event.

4. Since the network is completely down, messages will not be sent at all.

So, about number 2, people cannot leave the islands to get away of the influence of the event as they did in the desert planet? That's what it sounds like but just making sure.

Please include Rita in the RNG. I will give her group members a rundown of what they can expect from her. It's possible she'll need to be killed, what with the lack of food from Hope. :')

If it's possible, could the Killjoy cast be paired up? There's 4 characters in the cast, and the pairs can be completely randomized.
Also, if it's not too much, it'd be great if Party Poison and Kate could be in the same group.

Ianchus is staying in the city, much to his chagrin! If it changes anything, he'll 99.9% be in the clinic at the time, but go ahead and toss him into any group!
