lab update!
HEY ALL, in the spirit of the mod's update on player projects, Mippins and I are gonna work on getting the Lab it's own comm (like the Speakeasy, Guard, and Clinic!) but FIRST we're trying to make sure we have our ducks in a row regarding what the lab HAS and what it DOES. So if your character has contributed to the lab, built something, or added a resource/tool, please comment here! Below the cut is the original description, and I'll also add Alphys' contributions to keep stuff in line.
The original design of the lab is one large, open room; think of how an empty warehouse store might look, but at maybe a fourth of the size. The area is filled with tables, desks, chairs, and a whiteboard and chalkboard, wherein people have likely set up different stations (as per how many characters have set up residency/are in often, of which I have completely lost count). There are also a few, smaller rooms in the back: two supply closets and a slightly bigger closed-off kitchenette and lounge space (it's got a microwave and a fridge). There's a pull out couch that was dragged in there by the original creators as a god-given favor, so it absolutely doesn't match the decor and is like two years old. There's also a staircase to the roof for... roof stuff. I don't know, whatever the hell you wanna do up there. The walls are full of shelves, many of which have been converted to cabinets over the years, that hold anything characters would like to populate them with.
This was the BASIC structure when it was made by the original creators (our original Newt and Hermann!) nearly two years ago. SO NOW, let's figure out what it looks like. I'll go ahead and update this main post with the comments to have a consolidated area. Go ahead and fill out this form if you're part of the Lab AT ALL, even if you haven't added anything to the infrastructure- this is also to help figure out how many people are frequenting the lab also! Thanks ya'll!

Do they frequent the lab?: Yes! She's there at least 5 days out of the week; more often now with waterworld making travel harder. She has a desk next to the computer close to the far wall from the door entry.
Have they added anything to the lab?: YES, Alphys has a lot so I'm making a list:

Have they added anything to the lab?: YES, Alphys has a lot so I'm making a list:
- 1. The supercomputer. The supercomputer originally belonged to Newt and Hermann and came from an item rain in October of 2016. It's one of those old CRT monitors though it has an incredible amount of processing power and weighs enough that a few people would be required to lift it. It's been repaired a number of times and contains just about all of Alphys' research data, the (original) Newt's logs of the beginning of Hadriel for the first year, and a bunch of kaiju data. As per Sorrow and Alphys' chat in October 2017, it now runs on it's own generator power source (as to stop it from being hacked by the Null).
- 2. Null parts. Alphys collected a significant amount of defunct Null bodies during the last invasion, which have since been taken to pieces for scrap metal. She also is still in possession of three working arm guns (if hooked to an external power source), five broken (but mostly intact) processors, and two broken crowd disruption devices. Two of her previous processors were sacrificed to help repair Name, as well as a portion of the scrap metal. She's been using it primarily to study the Null's function and also to make small repairs to Name and a few other robots throughout the city. Since we're coming up on a year, this supply has lessened- let me know if other characters have been using it! She collected a LARGE amount of bodies and even trashed stuff was collected and sorted. It's primarily stored in the cabinets on the walls, but some of the less valuable stuff is just in piles. She keeps the guns and processors directly with her desk.
- 3: Tools! Alphys has a number of basic tools collected from various friends, gifts, and favors; feel free to assume the lab has a rather stocked toolbox of wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, and smaller metalworking tools. She also has a microscope from Hermann once upon a time.
- 4: General scrap metal. Before the Null came along, Alphys dug through many of the defunct spires (that were not fixed up) and raided the appliances there for metal, copper wire, and other useful materials. This supply is much more limited than the Null parts.

Do they frequent the lab?: Percy's here at least once a day, if not more. He doesn't have his own space yet, and once he has that, it might be less frequently, but he likes the think tank of nerds, so he'll never abandon it.
Have they added anything to the lab?: NOT... YET. Given time he will suggest putting some kind of weapon on the roof. Why? Because it's fucking cool. All he's done so far is work on designs for a gun for Caedra (that he has now scrapped since Newt dropped the info that she's terrible) and work on his own weapons with his tinkerer's tools... No one wants those. They are archaic as shit.

Do they frequent the lab?: Newt is in the lab on most days, though he keeps weird hours since his house is like two seconds away and you never know when inspiration's gonna STRIKE!! He has a desk (in a perpetual state of disarray) and a table that he's been using for monster dissections (which other people are welcome to use in his absence but also you probably don't want to...). If we have enough room for everyone, he'll have two tables for dissection stuff since he has a small group of other characters helping him out with his bestiary work, but if space is tight, he can suffer through just having one table.
Have they added anything to the lab?: HAHA...HA... oh boy. Newt has contributed to Alphys' pile of Null scrap, tools, and general scrap materials, so that's cool. He spent 90% of the Null invasion ferreting supplies into the lab, so they've been pretty well stocked, but he's also used a good amount of materials to build various monster enclosures for his house. I'd say he's gone through about half of what he contributed? Luckily he's given more than he's taken.
BEYOND THAT... Newt routinely dissects monster corpses in the lab. Sorry, everyone. Around Door Day each month, there's usually an influx of monster corpses littering the area... Since more people have started using the lab, he has the decency to store them outside, at least. The lab has thus accumulated a lot of weird monster specimens preserved in jars from food in the shops. It's gross? But some of it's useful, like there are a couple sets of BLADE ARMS from the Kabutops and things like that. He would add stuff to the community stockpile, so if anyone wants monster parts for some reason, go ham.
Theoretically, Newt also sometimes ferrets scrap material from the ruins around town, but I'm checking with the mods to make sure that's a thing he can do. Will update once I hear back!

Do they frequent the lab?: Michael's around a few times a week? Probably 3-4 days out of the week, he'll be there for a few hours at least, helping Newt with bestiary data or doing his own thing with monster dissections. He's hard to miss with all the, you know, the guts and stuff.
Have they added anything to the lab?: Besides the loud music coming from his phone? He's stolen a couple tables from around Hadriel to replace the ones he and Newt have ruined with monster blood, and he's also brought over a bunch of scalpels he took from the clinic (it's fine they have plenty). They're common use, and he's likely to just leave them all over the place, so wherever you need one, there you go. He has also contributed to the preserved monster part collection, but whatever he's added would just be with Newt's anyway.

Do they frequent the lab?: This is one of Peter's new favorite hang zones, expect him to pop in three or four times a week.
Have they added anything to the lab?: Aside from just repairing his own equipment, he hasn't done much in the lab yet. I imagine he's probably going to end up bringing in a bunch of monters for people to do science to since he's going to be off fighting them anyway, maybe go scavenging for scrap, that kinda stuff.
If anyone needs an assistant or errand boy, hit this dude up. He's willing to do pretty much anything for anyone because that's how he rolls. Also because he's bored.

Do they frequent the lab?: A couple times a week to help Newt or work on her own learnin'. She is one of news interns so what she works on varies. Cash spends a couple hours trying to learn the science she never learned in school (which is most science).
Have they added anything to the lab?: not yet!

Do they frequent the lab?: She goes there for four hours every "workweek," primarily helping Newt out. She doesn't have her own space, but she'd be at least passingly familiar with the rest of the people who regulars at the lab. Enough to not need an introduction should my character tag yours or vice versa.
Have they added anything to the lab?: Nope!

Do they frequent the lab?: Barry is in the lab 3 to 6 days a week! Usually keeps to himself at his desk, although occasionally known to sleep in the supply closet (that doesn't happen much anymore, promise).
Have they added anything to the lab?: Nothing except chicken-scratch field data from days the Door opens up in the Coliseum. He's more of a note-taker than a tinkerer, to be honest. Might want to work on some magic infused physics-y tools down the line!

Do they frequent the lab?: The lab is his home away from home (or apt). The only thing keeping him from being there 24/7 is the fact that his brother/apartment was on a different island. He keeps to his own space though, and doesn't interact with other people unless forced to.
Have they added anything to the lab?: Yes. His specialty is holograms, and he's been working to improve displays and user interfaces at least in his own area. His theory is that with limited resources, it's better to replace any physical displays, keyboards, etc, with a small holographic projector so that those materials can be used to increase computing power or other things. He does have a prototype up in his lab as of the July open mingle.
If others like this idea: he can slowly start to upgrade and replace those items in the lab.
If others don't like this idea: he can run into a lot of problems with the available materials and not be able to get it past the prototype.
