hadriel_ooc | Monthly Rundown: December Edition

Welcome to your new world, folks, we hope you're settling in well. Enjoy the freezing temperatures, the lack of food, and the disappearance of any and all amenities the gods used to provide. We're sure you'll be just fine!

DECEMBER PART 1: THAT SURE STINGS

Since the city moved, all the gods' gifts have been missing - including simple things like electricity and food supplies. The city has had to turn its thoughts towards being more survival-oriented, especially in such a harsh climate. And by now? Well, by now the last food supplies that remained in the shops when the city moved are starting to run out. Let's hope your rationing is going well, and that the hunters out there are willing to share, because it's not gonna be an easy month.

But where are the gods? When are they gonna get their asses back to the city and do their jobs again? Not to worry - they're trying. And if you remember this poll, you'll have some idea of who's having an easier time of it and who might take a little bit longer. In fact, on December 8th, the first two gods will make it back to the city. Confusion and Sorrow stumble in, tired and annoyed (but is Confusion ever not annoyed?), and there will be an NPC Post for them to explain. A little. On this day, the GPS function on your phones will begin to work again - but that will be the only god-provided gift that does. They used all their power getting back. Hope you're good on your own for food!

Very shortly after that, the Door does its thing. On December 10th, it opens again and dumps out a bunch of newbies. Along with them are quite a few giant scorpions, in this case specifically from Dungeons & Dragons.

Not that there's anything special or surprising about these guys - they're exactly what they seem to be on the tin. Large, angry, dangerous versions of the small scorpions you may be familiar with. They're well-armored, they can smack you with their claws, and they have a poisonous sting that's even more potent now that they're large-sized. But hey, you can eat them after they're dead. That's something.

DECEMBER PART 2: YOUR BEST ENEMY

Okay, so Sorrow and Confusion are back. Surely they'll get things in order, right? Well... don't count on it. As always, Sorrow has his priorities in order, and almost immediately upon finding the city and discovering that a) it seems to have survived, and b) Hope is missing, he decides the best thing to do is go find Hope immediately. Leaving all of you in the capable and loving hands of everyone's favorite goddess, Confusion.

She spent most of her power finding the city again, and all she's managed so far is to turn your GPS back on. In order to do anything more, she'll need energy - so, starting on December 13th, she'll work a little Confusion magic and flip flop everyone's CR.

What does this mean? Long story short, relationships are reversed. Suddenly you can't stand the sight of your best friends, and everything you say seems to piss them off, too. And that guy you've always secretly wanted to punch in the face? You sorta think he'd be fun to hang out with. Seems like a really chill dude! You'll remember how you used to feel - wow, how weird is it that you used to think she was cool? - but won't entirely be able to understand it. This relationship swap will last until December 21st. After this, as a direct result of the energy you gave Confusion, power will return to all the buildings across Hadriel - and in addition to that, each household will be provided with one small space heater. This is strong enough to heat one room only, so get ready to cuddle. There are still no food supplies or, well, anything else, but at least you probably won't freeze now!

DECEMBER PART 3: STAMPEDE

The city may be getting warmer, the gods may be returning, but that doesn't mean this world is safe. Remember those apex predators? Shaggy and full of teeth, dangerous but also kind of delicious? There have been a few herds of them investigating the outskirts of the city on and off since you arrived, and on December 26th they will - seemingly out of nowhere - rush the city. Maybe something spooked them, maybe they just decided they don't like you guys, but these big scary monsters will flood the streets of Hadriel. They'll attack anyone they see and even cause damage to buildings (this will be opt-in, and up to you to decide).

So stay inside... or maybe it's the perfect time for some hunting. This attack will end on December 28th. In addition, during this event we're looking for 3 volunteers for something special! This would involve damage and perhaps death to your characters. If you're interested, sign up here! We'll choose via RNG, with a preference for characters who have not been involved before, and we'll contact you privately with more information.

Worried about dying? It's all right. On December 29th, Sorrow will return successful, with Hope in tow. There will be another NPC post, and Hope will immediately get back to work. However, just like the other gods, his powers are severely depleted. Upon his return, he will revive anyone who has died, but will still be unable to provide food or other supplies. Hey, it's something, right?

FINALLY, for the month of December we will be running our Activity Check differently! If you make full activity, you will receive an AC token that you can use in the future - when used, it will count for half your AC, so you will only need to provide half. If you do not make full activity, you won't receive the token, but you will not be swept! We do ask that you at least check in on the AC post, however. These details will be repeated in the AC post at the end of the month!

Just confirming we get power and space heaters, but no water in the housing?

edit: actually, one more!

How does the confusion event affect new cr made at that time? Could it just be fresh and safe and thus go on as it normally would to continue after the event, or would characters' reactions to things be reversed in general?

...this is officially my I HAVE A QUESTION icon.

No water yet, you'll have to continue drinking weird lake water!

And the event won't affect any new CR made in that time. It's only reversing current feelings and relationships!
