January Event: Buried Alive

THE RUNDOWN

On the morning of January 16th, some of you are going to wake up and realize that you aren't exactly where you were when you went to bed. How were you moved? Why are you in a box? Why is your phone in your hand? It's a mystery!

It will become very clear in a very short period of time that you, and many others like you, have been buried alive. What's more is that, though you think you may run out of oxygen in 5-24 hours, depending on what you read on the internet before you were taken away into the Murdercave, in actuality you have about three days worth of air before you suffocate! That's right, this means that for every buried-alive character, if they are not rescued by January 19th, they will suffocate in their coffins and be subsequently revived by Hope. Not the most fun way to go...

But Hope is doing far more than just reviving everyone at the end of the event- shortly after he realizes what's going on, he will subsequently make a post to the network revealing the locations of where everyone is buried. Unfortunately, he can't tell you who is buried where, but at least we've got some help, right?

Rage isn't necessarily slacking off, either. While she won't directly help and put herself between Hope and Fear, she will stock her armory with shovels, ripe for the digging! Aboveground folks are free to try to coordinate rescue attempts, pass out shovels, or just ignore everything else and continue about their day- it's up to them.

THE DETAILS

Buried characters will have their phones on them, which can provide light, as well as a way of communicating with other buried characters and their would-be rescuers. However, there will be no food or water provided- this isn't a bed and breakfast! This means that hunger and dehydration might be an issue, particularly for those rescued on day 3.

Feel free to handwave rescues if you don't have time to coordinate one and just assume that somewhere along the lines, your character has been dug up or has dug someone else up! We're not trying to force deaths on anyone, but if anyone does want to kill their character, here is the Death reporting page!

The event will be ending on January 19th, when every character will either be dug up or, regrettably, dead. In the event that a non-breathing character is left underground, then there will not be a timely divine rescue- unfortunately, you're just gonna have to stay there until someone digs you up, or Fear eventually realizes that you're still 'alive' and transports you back. You might want to talk to him about that...

► January 16th: Half the characters wake up to find that they are buried. Later in the day, Hope makes a post with the grave locations and Rage stocks the armory with shovels
► January 19th: The oxygen in the coffins run out and those of you still buried have bigger problems to worry about.

So, Gren has stupidly sensitive hearing, and I was wondering if it might be possible for him to locate specific people by sound, if he was in the general vicinity of where they're buried.

Locus is in his Halo armour basically 24/7. Would he be out of armour for this event? His Halo armour is space proof so stuff like being buried alive and running out of oxygen would not be a problem for him considering the armour is meant to survive the vacuum of space and comes with its own temperature regulation and air supply.

Would there be consequences for, let's say, fucking up Fear's temple? If there are, I am perfectly happy to accept them because there's no way Sharon isn't doing something to exact some form of revenge.

A bit late of a question but I was wondering. Do they get to keep anything that might have been in their pockets when Fear took them?

Kaz here is going to make a network post where he tries to assign a digging spot to each person above-ground who's willing and able to dig people up. He's going to emphasize that it doesn't matter who they dig up, at this point they just need to try and make sure that everyone is rescued to make sure that no one suffocates. He'll be taking charge and in serious mission mode as a result. It'll be his first time really showing his face to Hadriel as a whole, too.

Kerrigan will offer to send her Zergling out to people to have it burrow on the spot to help loosen the ground, even though it can't actually dig anyone up

Z does well when there's a leader type to do the leading. She and a replica or two will gladly cooperate.

Noah is a not particularly athletic teenager and not able to do a whole lot of digging since he tends to blink out of existence from time to time but gdi he will dig with all he's got just the same and be very grateful for Kaz to take control. He's a good little follower, but he's gotta have someone to follow.

Rey will appreciate someone taking charge, so she'll be a good soldier and likely dive into Mission Mode herself to dig some folks out.

CECILY is going to be a bit of a wreck; 4/5 of the people she knows the best (Sharon, Arya, Cullen, and Thom) are going to be buried, and she will dig with her hands if she has to, dammit. Hopefully, though, it won't come to that; though she's a person with a mind for saving people, she will be trying to unearth these poor... sods..............

So, basically, anyone helping her out would be swell. Or, someone who is elsewhere and digs up one of those guys, she'll be very grateful. She may also need someone to shake her by the shoulders.

Dorian will help her dig. HE'LL BE ANNOYED HE HAS TO GET HIS HANDS DIRTY but he'll do it, because he wants Thom and Cullen back safe too, and of course any friend of Cecily's ought to be rescued.

Despite being new, Rey thinks being buried alive is a shit deal and will work on digging out whoever needs air to breathe. Which is probably anyone.
I'm thinking she's going to be helping Sharon da Silva but if anyone else needs help or wants a cyborg soldier thing up in your grill, I can do that. Rey is going to be very Focused on getting what needs to be done done, though.

Bruce will be aboveground, helping the diggers work systematically as possible, and then providing medical care for people suffering from dehydration/starvation/horrifying clawing related hand injuries, as the week goes on.

Bob is going to be buried- and I'm excited for this, because he has had a hard time building CR. Needing help- maybe someone to talk to him while he's trapped down there, will be very good for him. It's a great opportunity for him to meet a perfect stranger to be the calming voice in his ear- if you have an empathic sort who could be persuaded to be nice to a panicking boxed up man I would love to have them!

Bob and Z haven't talked since they fought their way out of the coliseum, so Z can always dig him out and/or keep him company via the network if you want~

since i don't wanna traumatize the new kid too much right out of the gate, sam is staying aboveground and will pretty much be trying to help as many people as he can get un-buried. he's pretty damned good with keeping a level head when he's up to his eyeballs in stress, so he'll be good for keeping anyone calm if they're on the verge of freaking out. sound like something you wanna do? let's make it happen! c:

Arya will be buried alive! She'll be scared not about the prospect of death itself, but about the fact that it's a little too similar to the tests and punishments she had to go through at the House of Black and White. She'll be concerned that she's being punished for forming an identity -- going out, making friends, that sort of thing -- so if your character is good at distraction or reassurances, she'd love the help. Digging her up would also be a bonus, too.

Johanna will remain aboveground, and won't be too broken up about the disappearance of half the city. She's a great resource, however, full of angry determination and lots of manual labor experience, so if your character can strike a deal with her to help dig, it'd work out well. Enlist Johanna, and she'll dig up you or your friend while insulting you the entire time, and I'm hoping to make some solid CR that way.

Peter will be searching for Arya! Whether or not he actually finds her, he'll talk to her a bunch, and will definitely have some contrary things to say about the idea of being punished for being a person.

Lloyd is going to be buried and honestly not nearly as worried about the whole thing as he probably should be. His roomie is going home for now though, so he's definitely gonna need some kind citizen to come dig him up. He might offer them some kind of hand made something in thanks too because that's the kind of boy he is.

If he gets out early enough he'd throw himself wholeheartedly into saving other people too.

Noah will be above ground and digging his little heart out, even though he's not terribly good at it. Still, the benefit of not needing to sleep... as long as he doesn't blink out of existence he can pretty much just keep going.

Rainier is going to be buried! I have no plans for anyone in particular rescuing him if someone wants to volunteer. He'll mostly be trying to use the network to keep others buried calm and the like. If he gets out while others are also still buried he's going to start digging asap no he does not need a rest there are people that need help.

Late but! Kamina is going to be buried, and very very unhappy about it. He's going to try to punch his way out and also be very loud on the network. I would prefer for him not to die, but in fairness people may prefer that option. He's kind of annoying sometimes.

Chris is going to be buried, and will be available for texting/talking to for any fellow buried people who could use some help staying calm and distracted. He's pretty good and has some practice at being reassuring in these sorts of situations, and helping other people will definitely help him too. He'll also be trying to help coordinate the actual searching for people thing too if needed/possible by keeping people on track and such. It's the methodical trait coming out.

I don't think I have any particular plans for who finds him when, but since he's not all that useful for digging purposes he might as well be down there for awhile w/e. Only thing in specific for sure is that he doesn't die, because he and his friends have had enough trauma already for now anyway.

Amos is buried, but since he can "talk" to animal companions within his rage, he might be able to signal them to come stand over his "grave" and thus get himself rescued.

.....otherwise he's going to be texting and trying to keep everyone calm and cool, while having off-screen fits of mixed panic/frustration because that's how he deals with stress! ....by flipping out when no-one's watching. :|

Peter will be aboveground, and helping mostly because he wants to find Arya and maaaaybe Adam. Maybe. But he will definitely talk to and tell stories to anyone underground while he digs and generally be distracting/entertaining because he'd absolutely hate being trapped like that and he's going to talk to Arya and Adam anyway.
