Event Post: Senses Fail

THE RUNDOWN

Sorrow already let you guys know that it's just about time to move the city again, so we're sure you also know what that means. Who moves the city? Fear. What does he need in order to get that done? Yep, you got it. Fear. So it's time for you to feel just a bit - or maybe a lot - terrified. And Fear doesn't do things by halves.

He's changing the game a little this time, and taking something from you. Rather than an object, this is a part of you: a sense, and ability, a limb. Something you use every day, something that seems vital to you, and now it's gone. Will it come back? Probably, but... well, you can't be sure, and even if it does, you've still got to figure out how to live without it for awhile. Or maybe forever.

Vulnerability can be the most terrifying thing of all.

THE DETAILS

What will your character lose? Well, that's pretty much up to you, as long as it falls under the general idea of a sense, power, or ability. They could lose a sense, or part of one - going half-blind, being unable to taste. They could lose a power - their magic, their ability to stay in human form. Or they could lose an entire limb - an arm or a leg, or maybe just a finger. They could even have more than one thing taken from them, if you really want to be mean. One eye gone at the beginning of the event, and just as you're getting used to it, the other disappears? Yikes.

Fear won't take anything that will cause them to die instantly, however. No vital organs, no ability to breathe. He also won't take physical objects or memories. He's interested in causing fear, and dead people can't feel fear. Though, of course, he won't much care if you happen to, say, stumble into the river and drown because you suddenly can't see. That's really your fault, after all.

All missing things will be restored at the end of the event, and please remember that this event is optional - your character doesn't have to be affected if you don't want them to be. Have fun!

Magnus is going to lose a few things: sense of touch, taste, and smell! Magnus in canon only recently got better from his soul being stuck in a mannequin body, so he's going to have all the sensations of not being able to feel anything again but this time in his actual body. Which will be super awesome and not jarring at all for him!

Also he's probably gonna drop or break stuff constantly because he wont be aware of how hard he's holding things. And his instinct to rush into danger will probably get him in a lot of trouble since he can't feel pain and won't know how injured he is still after it's all done!

No seriously I am down for this trainwreck and Caedra will be so pleased, even if he's hostile toward her as well since that's how he's supposed to be, as far as she can tell! But she's also very much down for encouraging him to indulge in this new discovery of his so whichever you find most interesting, I will gladly participate in!

Damien will be losing his sight at the start of the event. With the canon he comes from, he has to deal with so much chaos going on around him that he can't really control so he has to think and react quickly. The only thing he can control is what he does in that moment to counteract something terrible that's about to happen. So much of what he does everyday is completely dependent on his ability to see what's coming. So when he wakes up and just can't see at all, panic will definitely set in. Because he's Damien, he'll try to just roll with it the best that he can, but when he loses his fine motor skills a few more days into the event, he'll be pretty well tested psychologically.

His salvation will be his ability to at least reach out via his device, although that will be a struggle, fumbling around with that. But he'll want and need to connect with the people he knows and has started to trust a little so far. Or even just well-intentioned strangers. Although, on the reverse side, it's also a perfect opportunity for someone to mess with him badly if they wanted, he'll be so much more vulnerable, and once he loses his fine motor skills, he'll be even less capable of defending himself. More than anything else, he'll be upset that he's fairly well thwarted in being able to help others. If they need him, he'll feel pretty useless. So yes, fun times ahead as this all messes with him psychologically. :|

If there's a way he could be of use/help to your character, he'll do his utmost. It's in his nature to want to protect others, especially anyone vulnerable (and that's basically everyone right now). The first day, he probably won't want to leave his room much, but he's a survivor and pretty damn stubborn, so by day two, he'll be up and out of there, trying to just go about life as usual. And failing pretty hard, but hey he's out there trying. Open to anything really!

Damien, Damien, Damien. Presuming he walks away from our current thread (which I think is what's planned?) then Caedra is absolutely not above kicking him when he's down. It will sort of depend on how things go in the other thread though, I think, as to just how quickly and dramatically she wants to do this. But from what she learned during the Sorrow event, she has plenty of information about how to set him up with one horrible hell of an interactive too-real nightmare at some point during the event - if that sounds like something you want to do! It would be pretty awful to be thrown into something like that and not be able to open your eyes and see the real world to reassure yourself of what reality is.

Anakin is going to lose his connection to the Force. He is going to feel exceptionally vulnerable and just lost. Expect clumsy rage/panic. For him, this will be like suddenly being blind and deaf.

Sansa (stonebird) will literally be blind. I'm guessing she won't be doing much sewing or...walking. She will be extremely embarrassed if she takes a tumble! A lady would never...

Celebrimbor (handofsilver) is going to be deaf. Get his attention gently or there might be a blade in your face. Sorry about that in advance. He doesn't mean it.
