Event Post: Senses Fail

THE RUNDOWN

Sorrow already let you guys know that it's just about time to move the city again, so we're sure you also know what that means. Who moves the city? Fear. What does he need in order to get that done? Yep, you got it. Fear. So it's time for you to feel just a bit - or maybe a lot - terrified. And Fear doesn't do things by halves.

He's changing the game a little this time, and taking something from you. Rather than an object, this is a part of you: a sense, and ability, a limb. Something you use every day, something that seems vital to you, and now it's gone. Will it come back? Probably, but... well, you can't be sure, and even if it does, you've still got to figure out how to live without it for awhile. Or maybe forever.

Vulnerability can be the most terrifying thing of all.

THE DETAILS

What will your character lose? Well, that's pretty much up to you, as long as it falls under the general idea of a sense, power, or ability. They could lose a sense, or part of one - going half-blind, being unable to taste. They could lose a power - their magic, their ability to stay in human form. Or they could lose an entire limb - an arm or a leg, or maybe just a finger. They could even have more than one thing taken from them, if you really want to be mean. One eye gone at the beginning of the event, and just as you're getting used to it, the other disappears? Yikes.

Fear won't take anything that will cause them to die instantly, however. No vital organs, no ability to breathe. He also won't take physical objects or memories. He's interested in causing fear, and dead people can't feel fear. Though, of course, he won't much care if you happen to, say, stumble into the river and drown because you suddenly can't see. That's really your fault, after all.

All missing things will be restored at the end of the event, and please remember that this event is optional - your character doesn't have to be affected if you don't want them to be. Have fun!

Rey will be losing her soul. This will basically answer a very old question of hers whether or not she, as a synthetically made creation, even has one, so it'll both be great for long-term development and potential threads with a soulless Rey.

I don't plan on her going fully violent and attacking people willy nilly, but she will probably just be more like an empty machine who doesn't feel or care about anything. To her, that is pretty scary on its own, as well as probably to her friends/fam when they see her this way. I'm thinking maybe Rey will try to leave the city to try and get her soul back, but she might not do that willingly. If anyone wants/can drag her out, then A+ to that.

Meanwhile Ravine will be, for lack of a better phrasing, losing her control over her reaper abilities and be turning into a demonic force known as a Shedim (more details on them here).

During the first few days she will be fine, but later on Ravine will be more or less be amping up the spook factor by haunting the crap out of people. Think hardcore J-horror shit, like Ju-On or The Ring. Some people she might make more of a living hell out of than others, depending on the severity of the haunting you'd like. She could do something as minor as calling someone and making scary gutteral noises on the other end to her crawling out of your closet and chasing you around your apartment building. That sounds like fun, right?! Fear should be so happy. Who doesn't love a good supernatural spook?

This also means that she will be a risk to other spirit types as well -- such as Atem who she will attempt to get her ghostly mits on and devour like a tiny delicious spectral cupcake.

I have a lot of ideas for haunting scares, but I'm open to suggestions as well!

I am definitely up for doing anything with Nico and Ravine. Not sure if he'd be able to do anything for Rey, but haha, it takes a lot to scare Nico spooky wise so I'm just picturing Ravine trying to haunt and scare Nico and him just being like, completely straight faced and dead pan "Ooooh, I'm so terrified." I'm pretty much like "Yes, try and scare the crap out of Nico, bring it, this'll be great."

Hahaha yeah, Shedim do a lot more than just spoop, they can do actual physical harm which is what really makes them a threat (her visualocities has a lot of the kinda imagery that she'd be futzing around with). But I'm totally down with her doing haunty horror movie stuff at Nico!

Oh yeah, definitely! I'd rather she didn't kill anyone, honestly, since morality-wise that would mess with her to a point that would be really difficult to write around. But I am totally here for amping up the Nightmare Fuel because I live for that stuff, mang.

Well, I'm not sure if Rey would be leaving willingly or if she would even care at all, and it'd only be for the sake of trying to get her soul back, but idk if that's how it would even work so I'm gonna wait for that answer!

Edit AND IT TURNS OUT THAT THE ANSWER IS NAH ANYWAY so that plan won't even work anyway. Most eggselent.
