THE RUNDOWN

Sorrow already let you guys know that it's just about time to move the city again, so we're sure you also know what that means. Who moves the city? Fear. What does he need in order to get that done? Yep, you got it. Fear. So it's time for you to feel just a bit - or maybe a lot - terrified. And Fear doesn't do things by halves.

He's changing the game a little this time, and taking something from you. Rather than an object, this is a part of you: a sense, and ability, a limb. Something you use every day, something that seems vital to you, and now it's gone. Will it come back? Probably, but... well, you can't be sure, and even if it does, you've still got to figure out how to live without it for awhile. Or maybe forever.

Vulnerability can be the most terrifying thing of all.

THE DETAILS

What will your character lose? Well, that's pretty much up to you, as long as it falls under the general idea of a sense, power, or ability. They could lose a sense, or part of one - going half-blind, being unable to taste. They could lose a power - their magic, their ability to stay in human form. Or they could lose an entire limb - an arm or a leg, or maybe just a finger. They could even have more than one thing taken from them, if you really want to be mean. One eye gone at the beginning of the event, and just as you're getting used to it, the other disappears? Yikes.

Fear won't take anything that will cause them to die instantly, however. No vital organs, no ability to breathe. He also won't take physical objects or memories. He's interested in causing fear, and dead people can't feel fear. Though, of course, he won't much care if you happen to, say, stumble into the river and drown because you suddenly can't see. That's really your fault, after all.

All missing things will be restored at the end of the event, and please remember that this event is optional - your character doesn't have to be affected if you don't want them to be. Have fun!

Just curious, but would it be possible for affected characters to try to leave the city, and would the effects of their loss disappear as well? And if so, would the effects return if they try to come back, or stay gone?

Atem is going to be losing his body, and since he wasn't exactly alive to begin with more than bound to it, that means he's gonna be a ghost/spirit again. Dead people can feel fear.

This is a call for the people who can see or communicate with ghosts and/or spirits so he can actually talk to someone (or run away from them) as he freaks out big time, otherwise he'll probably do all he can to communicate to his friends, via haunting of course, because what else can he do? That should give Fear more power anyway. Alive normal people wouldn't be able to see him, at least not as a defined form, and since he hasn't quite transcended yet, he's gonna be one pretty normal spirit with basic ghostly rules:

• cannot pick up things (nor his cards omg.... Dx)
• can affect the temperature of small areas depending on their mood (i c ded peopleee)
• can affect electrical currents (that flickering light...)
• can inflict physical harm on the living without realizing they are doing so (when too upset/angry)
• can feel the thoughts of the living (not the same as reading thoughts)
• can be visible in photographs (TAKE PICS OF HIM OMG)
• animals (particularly dogs) can sense the presence of a ghost
• can communicate through 'white noise' (not that anyone has a recorder here?)
• can appear as a subtle aura

As per usual, those who can actually see him will see him as his pharaoh self, you know how I love abusing of those opportunities.

On top of that, as the event passes, Ravine will try to consume him due losing control, nice, huh? In an very desperate attempt to avoid that fate and other dangers (like idk Caedra), he will do the unthinkable and enter the body or a living person, aka. possess them for a while, a few minutes or a couple of hours tops, and for that I need some volunteers :D I'm not sure if anyone would remember what they'd do while he's in control, not that he'd go to town with their body I mean... But we can always talk it out!

cecily will be losing her whole left arm, taking away two major pieces of who she is: her ability to use a bow, and the anchor, which made her herald/inquisitor. she'll wake up in a panic and will privately be filled with despair, but her experiences thus far will assure her that it will return... eventually. in the meantime, she'll be trying to repress The Sadness and will instead be stubbornly trying to go about her day with just her right arm.

dany is losing her memories! since her memories and experiences, etc. are what makes her the person she is today, losing all that will reverse a lot of her character growth. she won't quite be the innocent and carefree girl that she was when aged down, and will instead seem a little more fearful, a lot confused, and wary of most everyone in hadriel. after all, she has no information about herself except what others tell her...

so. plot with me!!

Kiran is losing his equilibrioception, aka his sense of balance. This means that he will not be able to stand, walk, or run without stumbling around, falling over, or running into things. Moreover, he'll be unable to use his magic to fly like normally - not unless he wants to put his life in serious risk by crashing into things or falling to the ground!

He will be extremely upset and terrified by this, and will probably have some very not nice things to say on the network after this happens. He'll also need one or two Good Samaritans to help him to the Clinic, where he will most likely be forced to stay until the end of the event because he basically can't take care of himself on his own.

I'd love to have some threads with other miserable characters stuck at the clinic or characters who work at the clinic, or people trying to help out with those affected by the event, or just his friends that he's met so far. If you're interested let me know! my plurk is lazdo.

Lup is gonna have a super fun event.

Waking on the 14th, she will come to without her body, leaving Lup in her spectral lich form, which for those who haven't seen it yet, is basically a skeletal ghost floating around in a red cloak. At first, she'll be just fine, same ol' Lup just without a physical form. But then after a little trigger early into the event, she's going to lose one of her emotional anchors and quickly lose her stability as a lich right after.

Which basically means a murderous lich is going to be flying around the city, shooting off magic and looking for some victims.

If anyone wants to fight her or is looking for their character to get injured during the event, I AM HERE FOR YOU. Come be a big damn hero and get your ass kicked! She will be immune to physical attacks and her offensive magic will be incredibly powerful, but I am up to plot all kinds of fighting scenarios! This will be made all the better by Taako having lost his magic during the event, leaving him to watch his sister go nuts without being able to stop her.

Near the end of the event, Kravitz is going to be stepping in to take her out, so Lup will be dead for the very end of the event and a few days after before reviving back in her body like nothing at all happened.

She'll probably spend most of this event at the clinic incredibly jumpy and... well, unfortunately for anyone who comes by, she also has Fear's blessing which means she might accidentally trigger it in response to being caught off guard. You know, these things happen. (:

I want to keep this kind of low-key, however, so I'd like to limit that to a couple of threads.

Lastly... When she gets her sight back, she's gonna make a little, tiny, totally inconsequential discovery of the location of The Door. Again, these things happen. (:

Serah, on the other hand, is getting off scot free and will be available to help anyone who is terrified by their losses and those who aren't she'll be happy to sit and chat and try to unwind with.

I'm getting creative, Law is going to lose his ability to use his ability. That is, he'll still have his Devil Fruit and all the drawbacks thereof, but he won't be able to use it. What's the difference? Law won't know until he does something stupid.

I'm going for a slow-burn fear for him, as he slowly realizes how much he actually relies on his ability, but to get him to even notice I need two things: people who need his power to fix them up, and fights in which he would use his ability. For the first, anyone who has lost a physical sense or limb will do, since normally he would be able to do something about that but without use of Amputate or Mes, not this time! But I would also be cool with fights, whether against someone or teamed up with someone against any of those shitty flying monkeys who can't get their asses out past the barrier fast enough.

At the halfway point, Law is going to experiment to see if the Ope-Ope has actually been removed from his body by doing the one thing he really shouldn't: trying to swim. It'll be in one of the temple pools, since they're still bodies of water and that counts even if it's not seawater. He'll almost drown, so I'm looking for a rescuer. This isn't going to be an open prompt, so if more than one person is interested I'll RNG for the savior. So! Plot with me here, volunteer or any/all opportunities!

HI, I'M CURRENTLY BEING SICK.

Anyway, this is what I'm coming back for, so let's have a little rundown of how I'm going to be mean and rude to Lydia once again other than her having gotten her butt destroyed before I ran out of country.

So! It's going to start with her losing her magic, that's... that's the whole thing of it, really. Which, hilariously enough, also brings about her lich form since magic was kind of what gave everyone the illusion of ridiculous vogue elf to everyone around! Meaning skeleton in a black cloak being irritated and just kind of floating about.

But that's not all, folks, mind you before she was a necromancer she was also an illusionist. Meaning that any kind of offensive or defensive tactics she has was all magic based. So she's disugstingly and extremely vulnerable.

Which might not be a great thing while another lich is going full murder mode and the only differences between them is one is in red and one is in black and not using fire magic.

I sense this might be an easy thing to mix up.

Rey will be losing her soul. This will basically answer a very old question of hers whether or not she, as a synthetically made creation, even has one, so it'll both be great for long-term development and potential threads with a soulless Rey.

I don't plan on her going fully violent and attacking people willy nilly, but she will probably just be more like an empty machine who doesn't feel or care about anything. To her, that is pretty scary on its own, as well as probably to her friends/fam when they see her this way. I'm thinking maybe Rey will try to leave the city to try and get her soul back, but she might not do that willingly. If anyone wants/can drag her out, then A+ to that.

Meanwhile Ravine will be, for lack of a better phrasing, losing her control over her reaper abilities and be turning into a demonic force known as a Shedim (more details on them here).

During the first few days she will be fine, but later on Ravine will be more or less be amping up the spook factor by haunting the crap out of people. Think hardcore J-horror shit, like Ju-On or The Ring. Some people she might make more of a living hell out of than others, depending on the severity of the haunting you'd like. She could do something as minor as calling someone and making scary gutteral noises on the other end to her crawling out of your closet and chasing you around your apartment building. That sounds like fun, right?! Fear should be so happy. Who doesn't love a good supernatural spook?

This also means that she will be a risk to other spirit types as well -- such as Atem who she will attempt to get her ghostly mits on and devour like a tiny delicious spectral cupcake.

I have a lot of ideas for haunting scares, but I'm open to suggestions as well!

Lance is going to be losing his voice, which is kind of simple but has a few really deep-seated fears related to it and so it's the best fit for him this event.

When he first arrived in Hadriel he had some serious injuries that he pretty much tried to hide from anyone and everyone including damage to his throat that he was very concerned would end up permanent and affect his voice, including the possibility of losing it entirely. Considering he really needs to be able to talk for his profession (and, on a more personal side he also hasn't told many people about, he's actually a very good singer) this was an even more distressing prospect than it would normally be.

So, while this is going on, he's either going to be doing a lot of texting or, alternatively, annoying people with the text to voice function on the phones. Probably the latter if you're a friend. Sorry everyone who puts up with him.

It also means that although he'll be available for counseling other people affected, it'll have to be in written form, and that might as well be over the phones since he has terrible handwriting.

But yeah, I'm available for plotting whatever! 8D

Edgar is going to lose his immortality during this event but still remain as a vampire. What does that mean?

Well, he's pain tolerance drops down human level, so goodbye all dangerous stunts and ability to take a hit! He can't heal super fast either so lol, he's going to be easy to kill. Just like any other 14 year old. However, he's going to keep ability to suck blood and hypnotize his victims.

Which actually brings me to plot/thread request! Edgar is going to get badly injured after facing murderous lich Lup! In order to stay alive he's still going to need blood so uh. Is there anyone willing to donate? Maybe some help at clinic?

I'm sure Law would be all up in blood transfusions so long as it's before he gets taken down by Lup as well. He only has so much...

So Taako will be losing his magic- this is traumatic for him in a number of ways, but primarily will be an issue because he can't stop his hellraising sister, but he has another caveat. Without getting into too many canon spoilers, Taako ran into a challenge at one point that changed his appearance; he lost his beauty, and doesn't look as glamorous as he typically does. He currently uses a spell to make himself look like he used to (and match Lup), but without magic, won't be able to keep this up. It won't be a DRASTIC difference- more like sagging around the eyes, not having as nice a nose, but he'll absolutely look different to the people that are used to seeing him. Along with that, he's gonna be having an identity crisis about not having magic and what that means for his self-worth. It's gonna be a great time! (It's going to be bad, it's going to be so bad).

Meanwhile, Alphys is going to be losing her soul- at least figuratively. Because a monster's SOUL is what holds them together, she'll still be alive, and her magic intact, but she'll essentially have the sort of soul that Flowey ended up with in her canon, so completely unable to feel emotions. She'll also be struggling with morality, her work, and sort of the person she is without these feelings. Catch her having seven consecutive depression void days that you can't escape from, it's fine, this is Fine.

Rita will lose her hair (just the hair on her scalp). She's very vain and proud, so it'll terrify her to lose even more of what made her so confident when she was human. I wanna keep her lowkey in this event since I did so much with her in April. Serah, her roomie, will do the headscarf thing with her, annddd maayyyyybe she'll sleep with Drake so she feels pretty and desirable. (What do you mean what's in it for Drake? Like she cares!) It'll be consensual but that doesn't mean she's not a jerk.

Kat will lose her ability, aka her muscle memory. She'll have to put conscious effort into walking and eating, etc -- like a child learning basic motor skills. She will NOT imrpove over the course of the event, so she will be scared as heck. I don't think she'll leave the apartment much, but she might engage (slowly) with people on the network. :'c

Adam will be losing the hearing in his right ear - which means, since he was already deaf in his left ear, he'll be completely deaf. This will be pretty upsetting, since the first time he lost half his hearing was due to a traumatic experience, and a part of him has always been afraid of losing more. He's also never bothered to learn sign language (even though that's pretty useful for half-deaf folks!!!) so he'll be frustrated and upset and trying to rely on basic lip-reading and communicating through his phone. It would be a good opportunity to help him chill out a little, or take advantage of the fact he's already upset to get on his nerves and make him lose his temper. Or learn about his past. Or all of the above!

Rhy will be losing his ability to speak, which is something he's always relied on as a very diplomatic and charming prince. While it will be frightening for him, he'll eventually view it more as a challenge than anything - how can he communicate without words? He's still not awesome at phone-typing and will likely forget it's an option until reminded. Prepare for a lot of physical contact and bright smiles in an attempt to get past the awkwardness. Help most certainly needed!

Philip will lose the loss of his voice.

Wait. What?

Roughly four years ago, when Philip was still residing in Wonderland, he made a deal that would bring him back to life in exchange for his voice and some other minor modificaions.

Philip has adjusted very well to this since, not least of all thanks to some neat-o telepathic abilities of his.

Come the event Philip will suddenly find his voice returned... and grow instantly anxious. His voice belongs to somebody else and he should not have it. It was payment for his life, so what does getting it back say about his survival?

The loss of his voice will be instant, but over the course of the event he will begin to feel faint and experience stabbing pains in all the places his fatal wounds used to be.

Towards the end of the event he will most likely be so afraid of dying permanently, he'll attempt to mutilate himself in order to lose his voice again. (Seeing as this would involve a certain amount of throat cutting I'm up for some medical help to stop him from dying a very ironic death.)

Edgar is not much for medical help (he's usually cause of death) but he does have experience with somewhat similar struggle (giving up something in exchange for his life, questions about life and death in other cases too etcetc). Kylo will be losing his Force sensitivity over the course of the event.

This means he'll no longer be tuned into the energy of the Force and won't be able to use any of the abilities previously available to him. No more mind reading, telekinesis, and so on. It's pretty akin to losing a limb. Or several. This is a power that's largely defined his life and the loss of it will drive home the horror of this place quickly and effectively.

It's going to leave him vulnerable, physically as much as emotionally. He'll still be pretty down to fight but his chances of making it out without injury aren't good. So. Kick his ass. It also makes getting drunk easier. If that's relevant somehow?

Once the event starts, he is going to be driven to test and confirm its absence. Volunteers are welcome. Who wants to be ineffectively ordered around?

Kelson, Will Solace and Seel

Kelson's going to be losing his magic, and this will effectively turn him human.

He'll actually be stupidly taking a sip of the tainted wine the Door gave him in a previous event, as it only effects those with magic. With his magical genes turned off, it's a minor sedative. He will freak out.

While he's only been aware of his abilities for the past four years, they've become part of who he is, and in fact he needs them in order to keep his crown. He'll be terrified of the loss and what it means for his kingdom and his people. In addition, he actually uses his magic to augment his fighting abilities, like archery and fencing, so his aim is going to be a bit off.

He'll also be stupidly trying the tainted wine after the event is over when his powers come back, since it's the only test he has access too right now to ensure he's really fully functional again. So, he'll be looking for some good, trusted people to watch him while he's .....really completely out of it and drugged to all hell.

Will and Seel aren't going to lose anything but are there for plotting if anyone needs a helping hand!

Yusuke will be losing his sense of sight, which would be distressing for anyone, but is even moreso for an artist. He'll need people to help him out and encourage him..... since he'll basically jump to the conclusion that his life as an artist (and therefore his life in general, bc what is life without art) will be over unless he can get his sight back.

I don't have any specifics or threads planned out yet, though, so I am down for anything! If anyone wants to catch me for plotting, you can grab me at moonsilver.

Welp Komaeda will certainly try to help out by giving advice which may or may not be helpful. Because once other people start losing body parts and senses and abilities he'll probably work out quickly that things are happening again and be all, "You can overcome this because your hope shines really brightly!" and all that jazz.

Hayden will, similarly to Alphys, be losing what makes him not act like what he is: a demon. Without a human heart, he'll become an instrument of chaos and destruction, detached and delighted to the suffering of others. One can only imagine that with the level of energy that this child has, how much trouble he can get into when he doesn't care who or what he hurts. He can still feel fear if he's threatened, but the fear associated to what's happening to him won't be hitting him until he gets it back again, and at that point he'll be spiraling. Hayden won't know if he can trust himself or if he can ever be someone who belongs in a better place; he didn't think that he was capable of behaving this way. It's not a reality he ever wanted to face.

But, for the time being, he'll be jumping and running around about as much as ever, but this time seem to be actively trying to tear things down, break objects, and in general cause people trouble. Acting much like a rabid animal, he'll try and bite anyone who gets too close or tries to touch him when he doesn't want to be touched.

No seriously I am down for this trainwreck and Caedra will be so pleased, even if he's hostile toward her as well since that's how he's supposed to be, as far as she can tell! Jon Snow is going to be losing two things, maybe not all at the same time:

• All memory of how to handle edged/puncture weapons (I'd say "how to fight" but he'll still be ok at punching): if you're canon-familiar, his sword-fighting abilities are going down to "Jaime, post-amputation." He can still bash with a shield, but he won't be able to handle a sword, spear, or bow. He'll carry a dagger but won't have any skill with using it other than anyone else would have at a desperate moment.
• All memory of how he got the scars on his chest and the related desire to hide them: this is probably more relevant to his housemates, since he's still not likely to go shirtless around town unless he goes for a swim, but he will not remember the who or why of getting stabbed, or indeed getting fatally wounded at all.

Jon has been in weapons training since he could walk, and at his canon point, he's considered an impressive swordsman; it's a huge part of his identity in a society where he's gained a lot of respect on the basis of these skills. He's killed some formidable opponents and is a pretty good teacher himself. All of that will be gone, and he'll feel pretty vulnerable.

The scars on his chest are from a successful assassination attempt: he was raised from the dead, has a lot of issues about it, and doesn't really like discussing it if he can get around it. The scar over his heart looks like the wound would probably have been fatal, but there are also a bunch of scars lower on his abdomen, seven in all, and they're pretty nasty, twisted and raised and half-healed-looking. While he probably won't agree to discuss this in detail once his memory returns, it opens the door to him potentially discussing it in more detail a little down the line.

My main intentions are for him to look after his housemates, or at least try to. Outside of that, he may need help out of scrapes.

Also, he's recently joined the Guard and will be utterly useless to them for the duration of the event.

Since Kain considers his legs to be the absolute most important thing ever, he's going to gradually lose the proper use of them! What's a dragoon without the use of his legs, after all? On the first day of the event, he'll find his power is completely gone, which will mean he's unable to jump. Over the following days, his legs will get increasingly difficult to move, so he'll be hobbling a lot to get around, and end up essentially paralyzed for the later part of the event. He may need to get dragged somewhere safe to stay at some point!

Caedra here is losing her pact boon and invocations - not all of her magic, but specifically the magic she most closely associates with the gifts Amamot has given her throughout her lifetime. She will end up being fairly cautious due to this, once she realizes what she's missing, and after she helps walk poor Semiyon home on the first day, she will likely spiral deep into paranoia.

She will try to avoid people but despite her loss she may be more likely to attack unprovoked, to try and head off anyone who she sees as a problem. If anyone wants their character to experience the spells Hex (which makes you bad at a class of abilities of Caedra's choice - think physical strength, interpersonal skills, general awareness of surroundings, etc) or Dream (where she enters and manipulates someone's dreams, usually to frightening results) then this would be the time she's especially likely to use those as they let her harm people without it being obviously connected to her.

Let me know! Also as a heads up, I will be on hiatus starting May 18 so anything that isn't finished by then will be on hold for a couple weeks until I have wifi again.

Oscar will lose his hands. This will be the second time this has happened to him; the first time was when a shady Director trespassed on his train and attacked him. So on top of this event bringing up all kinds of bad feelings about that again, Oscar will also lose his ability to work for the Fire Brigade and the Clinic. He may or may not go for replacement hands (really depends on what's on offer), but this should finally mean that he will properly focus on the fact that his body has been in bad shape since the Null attack and is now in even worse shape due to the Sorrow event that just happened. He'll acknowledge that he really needs to approach someone about maintenance soon. For this and possibly maybe replacement hands, he will more than likely seek out Alphys!

Since he won't be going about his daily business without hands, there won't be much opportunity to talk to him while he's in that state unless you see him between his apartment and the Lab or inside the Lab itself, where he might end up just sitting looking like a sad sack. He'll be calling Nick for assistance initially.

OKAY so my plans for NEWT have changed a little from what i've been talking about on plurk? he's going to be losing coordination in his hands. they'll still work; he'll be able to do like basic... idk hand-related things, but anything that requires dexterity (dissecting monster corpses, tinkering with electronics, playing his keyboard, EVERYTHING HE LOVES) is right out. he'll be a hot lil potato for this event so if anyone wants to deal with Anger Nerd, please come at me. he does not deal with sustained fear very well!

HARLAN, on the other hand... he's going to lose his magic, which will be a pretty big tipping point for his mental health. he's gonna be in a real bad headspace for this event, and probably for a little while afterward as he recovers. so! my plan right now is to do a big network post for him during the event to serve as a distraction, but i think i'll just do closed starters for the actual event log.

that said, if you'd like to do a log thing with hh during the event, we totally can! buuut, a warning: he's going to be self harming and suicidal and his ocd will be ramped up to 11... and he'll be struggling to cope with his homicidal urges. SO. if you're down for that, by all means let's do something. if you want cr with him but don't want to deal with all that, hit up his network post! i plan to keep all his heavy mental health stuff out of that.
