 Hah. Oh boy, I have no idea how to get Katara in on things. Can anyone help me/give me any ideas on what to do?

There are lots of ways to get involved! Aside from having her make a network post - a good, easy way to get CR with some folks - you can always hit up one of the toplevels on the intro log, or tag around on some of the more current open logs on the log community, or even one of the recent network posts.

Most importantly, don't be shy! If people say they're open, then go for it!

what sort of stuff would you be interested in getting her involved with? there's a bunch of different player projects/organizations that she could get into! for example, there's some locations like the clinic, the speakeasy, the lab, and the guard that are all player-run.

as far as my characters go, (btw HI HELLO i'm mippins and i play my oc harlan here and newt geiszler from pacific rim!!) newt works down at the lab and he's got a bestiary project going that he could always use help with. he just put up a network post earlier in the month (here!) and if you'd like to get katara in on that, you could have her respond to the post. harlan doesn't have any big thing of his own going on, but he spends a lot of time down at the bakery, which is run by his friend delmar (imhisaunt). harlan has also been known to text random numbers out of the blue out of boredom LOL so if you need an ic excuse to get katara talking to people, i can always have him hit her up!

Hey there! A good way to start is by posting a starter on the intro log, and/or by tagging out to people who have listed their starters there as open or 'ota' meaning 'open to all'. That way she can start meeting people, and the intro log has a lot of fellow newbies so they'll have that in common, while posting your own starter will let anyone who wants to come say hi!

We also have an event starting soon for people not going out on boats, and the same thing applies there when it goes up. Hope that helps and let me know if there's any clarification you want on this stuff!

Echoing everyone else, I see Grimme gave you some good links and Mippins listed the big player projects! To expand, because I have them handy:

Clinic: undersupplied
Guard: undermanned
Speakeasy: underweathered
(I don't know if the labs have a comm for organization, but maybe someone else can chime in?)

If you're feeling overwhelmed by doing your own top level on the intro log or tagging strangers directly, a lot of us are still watching the individual mingle threads -- they are always OTA and a little less open ended due to being location locked.

Network posts are honestly a great way to start, too, we are extremely friendly and the character spread here runs the gamut but there are many super helpful types that'll answer any question you have and provide resources ICly, especially if you put a note in that you're looking for help with that kind of thing!

Also seconding Lauren, I'd recommend holding off on trying to find a boat or what have you and leaving Katara in the city for the RNG event happening next week. It's designed to foster new CR, there's some info on the August run down over here. (Look at Part 3: Deserted.)

Hey there! I see others have given you some direction, but I remembered you mentioning that you're pretty new to DWRP and I know that trying to acclimate to a different interface can be a lot to get used to. If you're still having trouble, I know someone wrote a super helpful guide to DWRP (it says "for Tumblr RPers" but it's good for anyone coming from any other medium of RP, really).

And, of course, if you have any questions, feel free to let us know on plurk. The game also has a Discord channel you can join and hit up there if you're ever confused by something. We know you're new so don't be afraid to ask us anything.
