Endgame OOC: Null Attack
THE BUILDUP
THE ATTACK
THE NULL
THE OVERVIEW
It's time. You all knew it was coming - the inevitable Null attack. There's no more running. This is your last stand.
It begins slowly. The Null have been scouting for the location of Hadriel since the very beginning, but constant moves have kept them off your trail. On May 29th, that's all over when a contingent of Null scouts flies above the city. High in the sky, they are too far away to easily hit, and they only stay long enough to transmit the location of the city. They are, after all, merely a scouting force.
Knowing that this is the end, Hope will make a network post on May 30th. After discussion with the other gods and with some of the residents of the city, he has a few options for people to vote on - your final IC vote of the game. This will determine the ultimate form of the gods' response to the Null, and the decision is in your hands. The poll will be open until June 5th, and we'll have a followup OOC post explain the effects of your decision.
Shortly afterward, the first wave of Null attackers arrives. On May 31st, the battle begins. These initial forces are merely the advance force, the closest Null troops available, and you did all choose this place to move the city because there wasn't much Null presence. So the attack starts off slow, particularly because Confusion and Tranquility are protecting the city from air assault, making it unable for Null ships or troops to land within the city.
The Null troops land in the jungle surrounding the city instead, and approach through the trees. At this point, anything outside of the city becomes extremely dangerous. The Null begin to set up encampments and weapons, surrounding the city, with regular forays into it. These are often turned back by Confusion's powers, but a few will make it through. Throughout this phase of the attack, the most dangerous place is outside the city, but every day or so 3-5 Null will slip through the defenses and wreak havoc within the city. Kill them quickly if you can - their goal is information gathering and destruction of whatever defenses they can find, weakening the city for the main attack.
This is the last chance you have to create defenses, formulate plans, and find other ways to fight back against the Null. Many of you have already been working on projects, which can be seen here (and a couple here). There are bunkers in Delight's housing for noncombatants, and in addition to that some folks have managed to tweak the Door into providing a protected area as well, which will keep Null out by means of an insanity field. One of our residents is working on weaponizing the environment and preparing for guerilla warfare, some people have convinced Fear to take them to attack Null outposts, and a number of folks are working on permanent Null solutions, like transport via the Door or a virus (these will be some of the possible solutions voted on in Hope's post). You've all been doing some amazing stuff. Please let us know here if there is anything we've missed, or anything new you'd like to do!
THE ATTACK
On June 6th, the city defenses fall. One of the Null troops that managed to break past Confusion's labyrinth of protection delivers a bomb specifically created to damage or kill gods to her temple. Its explosion, while not quite killing her, does injure her severely. A wave of intense confusion blasts through the city at the moment the bomb is detonated - for up to fifteen minutes, your characters might not know where they are, what they're doing, or even who they are. Luckily, the same thing happens to the Null.
After this, the Null can enter the city. They begin their attack in earnest, using their bases set up outside the city as places to attack from. While they can be beaten back by the remaining gods and your efforts for a few days, on June 11th a fleet of Null ships appears above the city. Ominous and frightening, their only saving grace is that the Null have never engaged in ship-to-ship combat, and thus never needed to develop missiles. They cannot bombard the city - but they can send near-endless waves of Null down to invade.
From then on, they will attack both from the edges of the city and from above. There will be brief breaks now and then, as the Null marshal their forces and repair, but their ultimate goal is complete destruction of the city and all its inhabitants, and they won't stop until this is accomplished. There are very few safe places, except for what you yourselves fortify. The gods' temples are also technically safe, as the gods will do what they can to protect them, but since they're also targets for the Null, that safety is definitely not guaranteed.
On June 15th, another fleet of Null ships appears above the city, with twice as many ships. As the city is truly beginning to be overrun, the decision chosen in our IC poll will be implemented. What the effects of that are will depend on what you choose, but one way or another, the invasion will be over. Let's hope you survived it. Let's hope we all did. The effects of this attack on both the city and the gods, in addition to the Null, is entirely up to you.
THE NULL
Those of you who were around during our previous Null attack know what's coming. We won't rehash all the info in that post - however, if you want to reread the 'Null' section, that'll give you a great idea of the majority of the threat you'll be facing. They can still shapeshift, they still have laser cutters, and they're still centrally linked, sharing information within milliseconds. They'll have fewer of the crowd-killing weapons this time, all of which will only be deployed in the second part of the invasion, once they're in the city. But don't get too complacent. While you've been thinking about how to fight the Null, they've been thinking about how to fight you.
Having fought only the gods and their hosts in the past, their first attack introduced the Null to a variety of new threats. Namely: magic. While the gods have magic of a sort, it isn't the fireball-throwing, spell-casting badassery that you all brought to the table. Being ever adaptable, and knowing they will again face this threat, the Null have developed new units specifically designed to combat magic-users.
These units are much rarer than the regular Null, but much stronger. They have been outfitted to be far more resistant to energy blasts, ice magic, and particularly fire, with fireproof exoskeletons capable of withstanding extremely high temperatures. While they do still have laser cutters as their main weapon, they have also developed smaller, more directed versions of their crowd-killers. These can be used on one person at a time to, essentially, sonic blast the brain of their attacker. They will immediately cause confusion and total loss of concentration, rendering whoever they're directed at unable to use their abilities - or do much of anything - while the Null attempt to kill them.
There will only be a few of these new Null arriving in the first wave, but once the ships arrive, their numbers will increase as well. And the ships themselves are, of course, a danger. In addition to carrying Null troops and dropping them directly on the city, they will track movements within the city. What does this mean for you? Well, once the ships are overhead, anyone who steps outside of a building will be tracked by the Null forces above. This doesn't mean you'll immediately be attacked, but it does mean that sneaking from place to place and launching surprise attacks is essentially impossible, unless you have cloaking abilities of some sort. There are three large ships and seven small ships - nowhere near all of the Null fleet, but enough to keep an eye on you. Of course, just like the Null, with luck and effort they can be destroyed. If you can get up there.
THE OVERVIEW
► May 29th: Null scouts appear
► May 30th: Hope post
► May 31st: Null attack begins
► June 6th: City defenses fall
► June 11th: Null ships appear overhead
► June 15th: ???
QUESTIONS

How do the Null fare against electrical damage specifically? Kyna has some of the usual lightning based spells, but she also has one that shuts down technology. I assume that won't actually shut down any of the Null, but would it affect their systems at all?
Anddd would the Null be affected by psychic or radiant/holy damage at all? Since they're pretty much robots, I just wanted to double check!
no subject
As they are robots and do not have minds as such, they would not be affected by psychic damage! We're assuming 'radiant' is along the lines of 'holy', and that would not affect them either, beyond perhaps some minimal damage.

ETA: Just wanted to also ask if other characters in the game happen to have useful ghosts following them around (that aren't appable characters but are canon) if Klaus could try summoning them.
no subject
Klaus is welcome to summon unappable ghosts through the door, though we will put a soft limit on the number he'll be able to bring in. Alternatively, he could summon monsters that the door has previously brought in and were killed.

Re: QUESTIONS
clearly he'll be vulnerable to the sonic blast and I'm sure Counter Shock, being electricity, is less effective if they've beefed up their circuit breakers...

BUT adding to the magic questions: do these Null have a specific resistance to the act of magic, or is it just an elemental buff so you can't flame roast or flash freeze them? I ask because Taako's specialty runs mostly in transmutation, which changes things into other things, and some of his more powerful spells are things like throwing acid or summoning gigantic tentacles to wail on things. Do these Null have specific resistance in that sense to anything created with magic, then, or is it just that their perception of magic last time was "can summon fire" and are now more resistant to elemental magic?
Thank you!!

Re: QUESTIONS

On board a small ship they would find 15-25 Null troops, supplies, and weapons, all being transported to the battlefield. On board a large ship, they would find 50-70 Null troops (some in the process of being repaired or built), extensive weapon stores, a huge stockpile of parts and materials for repair, and an area specifically dedicated to repair and creation of more Null troops. Both types of ship would have computers and many sensors dedicated to tracking movements on the planet.
no subject
If a team were able to fly up themselves, how powerful of a blast would they need to penetrate the hull of one of the smaller ships?
no subject
However, characters could use the network to call Fear back up to take them home, so he would be available for return transport- of course, if you'd like to put your characters in a little more danger, the option for the Null to somehow block character communications is there, resulting in the group needing to find their own way back down.
The blast would need to be powerful, but the Null ships aren't resistant to magic like the new Null are. These ships were meant for space travel, so the hulls would definitely be thick enough to do that safely, but not thick enough to repel a significant force bursting through them- again, the lack of ship combat makes them slightly weaker in this regard.
more questions here we go
2) Would characters be able to sync their devices to the transmission of movements on the planet?
3) Would characters be able to use the Null weaponry mentioned above?
no subject
There is no command center, because the Null don't use a centralized command structure. Instead, there are computers all over the ship. Mostly these are accessed via the Null's network, rather than terminals and monitors, but there are a few 'failsafe' terminals scattered throughout, in case of network disruption.
2) While you could certainly try to sync your devices, be aware that the Null are far more technically savvy than the gods, and any device left connected to their network for more than a few seconds will be hijacked. All the data on it will be downloaded, and it will be turned into a receiver, recording audio, video, and GPS signal and sending it back to the Null. It is possible, with care and very fast work, to download a 'snapshot' of movements - essentially, a layout of where things are at the exact moment of download. It will not update and will not remain accurate past the moment it is disconnected from the Null network, but it will be accurate up to that point.
3) Much of the Null weaponry is meant to be attached to their bodies and powered by their internal batteries, but in terms of things that don't require that, characters could find some crowd-killing weapons as well as some more familiar and typical bombs meant for destroying buildings.
no subject
ONE LAST QUESTION.... Or two last questions.TWO DIFFERENT LAST QUESTIONSHow hard would it be to crash one big ship into another big ship?
Alternatively, if they took some of the bombs, would Fear be willing to bounce them from ship to ship to plant bombs in the weapons stockpiles of some of the other ships?LUP IS GONNA DO THIS PARTwhich leads me to:
Can the bombs be detonated remotely?
no subject
2) The bombs cannot be detonated remotely without access to the Null network. There is a delay of only a few seconds between pressing the 'detonate' switch and detonation. Their troops' bodies are essentially expendable, so they don't worry about losing one or two if a bomb must be detonated in 'person'.
Long story short: it's easy to get on board the ships, and easy enough to do some damage and steal things, and it's even possible to destroy a ship or two if you're quick and prepared for danger. Unfortunately, destroying more than a ship or two (once the Null know it's possible for people to do) or taking control of any of their systems without the assistance of something like [Name] will be far, far more difficult.

As far as carrying it- they would be detonated by being broken, which will happen if it drops with some sort of weight on it to make the impact heavier (so be very careful about that!). They cannot be remotely detonated however, and would need to be thrown, dropped, or crushed in order to release the energy inside.
no subject
2) If she merges, can she open pockets of Silent Hill? They'd be used to trap the Null and to summon Pyramid Head as physical guardian and they'd be closed as quickly as they were opened.
Mind you, her merging with the seal would be an ultimate sort of last resort given her uncertainty what it will do to her.
(also I totally would love her to protect Fear at some point just because)

I'd love for her to protect Fear, though! We should definitely plan for doing something like that in the final log. :D
PROJECTS
All's Fair in Love and (Guerilla) War...fare
I posted here about some attempts at mitigating the jungle-based threat. Nate is organizing a contingent of strike groups to deal with perimeter attacks by weaponizing the environment with various traps and quick fight-and-flight tactics.
The public interest post he made on the network is here. In the next day or so I'll have a map made for the purposes of better organization in this effort, and will make a point of putting it on my plurk and putting it in this thread.
If you are interested in being part of a strike group/participating in some way with this venture, please respond to Nate's post, message his inbox, pp me at
Looking forward to fighting some jerk robots with you guys! ❤

Re: All's Fair in Love and (Guerilla) War...fare
She'd have no problem collaborating/arranging traps and maneuvers with him.
I know this is a few days late, but I've been out of the RP loop for a few days without realizing it.

Posting a top-level for all guerrilla warfare activities today, so look out for it. :)
you know how sometimes you make a joke and it snowballs...
This is a two to three - four pronged plot dealing with defending the inhabitants of the city and attempting to stop the Null through non-fatal means if at all possible.
THE DOOR PORTION; THE [NAME] PORTION; THE DEFENSIVE SHIELD PORTION; And that's about everything! If you're interested in getting involved, please tell me here and leave your plurk username so I can add you to the PP!

But Law absolutely would have tried to convince [Name] and offered protection, as well as some science and theories even if he can't code for shit and is mostly just the brain here. He's also ethically dicey but he'd be the first to realize, given his studies of the gods, that he can't and won't kill them in order to get the means of creating a vaccine/firewall. So when he realizes the virus is the only way, he'll advocate.
If there is anything I can have Law do ICly, let me know. I don't want to drop the ball so close to endgame, I want to get back into this.

Look at all of this /rubs hands eagerly
more [name] stuff
So thanks to discussions with a few people (Law, Rey, ect), Alphys has been trying to investigate the feasibility of the Null code and has spoken to [name] about it! We're still kind of threading it but it's over here. She's gonna find out the above information though, and try and move forward with this idea.
HOWEVER... she is very, very worried about this bot, and when push comes to shove she won't let them die. So one of the things she's going to do is tell Hope that [Name] exists, with the hope that if they die during this but they defeat the Null, Hope will restore [Name] back to life. She's also working on the actual feasibility of what she can add to this code from what she knows, but it's mostly going to be [Name] doing a lot of legwork there.
If other people want to get in on this PLEEEEASE let me know, the [Name] plot is one I hold near and dear to my heart and I super wanna see it get resolved well ;O; SAVE THIS BOT
i play idiots, news at 11
In which three idiots (Ivar, Steak, Red Wine) do something debatably stupid and run off, with the help of a very reluctant Fear, to a Null mining colony to do some damage. This will be occurring just before the actual invasion begins and they will be sneakily taking down some of the structures there which are used to create more Null and their weapons / crafts / other technology. They'll have about an hour and a half's playtime to destroy whatever resources of the Null they can find before the Null retaliate and Fear yoinks them all back to Hadriel.
They won't find anything particularly interesting, but will be able to bring back smaller items like Null alloys or small repair tools which could be used for the replacement of Null parts.
Overall, they will do a fair amount of damage to the Null mining colony, but that is still open to change depending on whether any other characters want to join in and provide them additional support.
We are definitely still willing to include others in this plot, so if you're interested, please hit me up here, send a DM, or hit me at
Air Raid Sirens
Klaus Hargreeves...
I imagine he'll only be able to do this a couple times (maybe 3 tops?) throughout the course of endgame, so I'd love to plot out how those instances would happen. Ideally, I'd like for one smaller incident to happen earlier in the plot, maybe when someone he cares about is in danger, and then he would have some impetus to actually train a bit.
Klaus doesn't know much about how his ability works, but in canon it seems to be somewhat emotionally tied (at least right now in his training's infancy), and tends to happen when he's feeling heightened emotions (fighting with his brother, trying to save his other brother, trying to save all his siblings...) so I imagine one or two larger incidents might happen but only after the City's defenses fall and things are really messed up.
So. If anyone is interested in plotting for one of these incidents or if something like this would come in handy as part of your endgame plot, hit me up! Also totally open for anyone who'd like to help him with setting jungle traps and/or would be willing to share firepower (guns or explosives) with him.
